Hi, I'm also new. My dd is 15, hasn't been formally dx but I'm sure she has it. She has always been homeschooled but she's in a great homeschool program where she has classes twice a week. We've been very busy with all sorts of activities over the years so she has been involved in lots of social activities, etc. all along. Anyway, Brittany has totally worn me out and exhausted me since she were 1 yrs old. Tantrums til age 12 (screaming, on the floor, etc.) and she's still extremely sensitive. For instance, yesterday I came home to find her at the top of the stairs sobbing because she was waiting for my 13 yr old dd to finish making her bed and she wanted to go to bed ASAP. So she was sobbing. This is a girl who can stay up at sleepovers til 1am so it's not like that's a problem. My dh thought it was because my 13 yr old had been sleeping on the futon upstairs then when she wanted her bed back, Brittany didn't want to share 'her' room again. Then, at lunch yesterday, she had a fit because she didn't want to sit on the edge of the bench (we have 2 long benches instead of chairs). So, she just wouldn't let it go and eventually started sobbing because our knees barely touched. She acted like I had a knee full of porcupine quills. She's always been very extreme and dramatic. When she's around kids her own age she tries to act very polite and proper and it comes off like she's acting extremely fake. She can't get her voice to sound normal and it comes out sounding very high. She's been doing this for years but I'm really feeling bad for her now when she does it around her church youth group. So, I thought I would talk to the youth leaders and let them know she has Asperger's syndrome. I'm just feeling at the end of my rope with her lately. She's always been so high need, so different. My 13 yr old and 9 yr old are so normal socially. My 13 (girl) yr old is very outgoing and gets along great with everyone. My 9 yr old is a boy, has type 1 diabetes but gets along with pretty much everyone easily. I don't know where to turn. I've also looked into the school for help but they didn't even realize she is registered!!! I've been reporting to them for 10 years (you have to report quarterly in NYS) !!!!! I've also tried to get her an evaluation with a developmental Dr. but he just took a few min. and didn't say more than 2 words to her and just said to take her to another place. Well, our insurance won't cover that dx.

Help! What else can I do???? The school won't even call back now!!

Benita, NY (upstate, near Albany!) Homeschooling Mom (our 10th yr!), 9 yr old dx with type 1 Diabetes (on the pump/insulin dependent, since 10-02), 13 yr old with IgA Nephritis (kidney disease) and 15 yr old with Sensory Integration Disorder/Asperger's (I think, not formally dx) and a son waiting in Heaven who had AVM (brain malformation). A Mother can never be perfect, but there are a million things she can do to be a great Mommy!!!
