Guest guest
Hi all, I just chimed in to say I'm not thrilled with either candidate. I've not been since the beginning and it hasn't changed. In fact, I " m not really happy with the nation's lack of interest in the dramatic increase in the occurance of autism. The media is slowly picking up on what is looking like a potential epidemic. All that being said, with either candidate, our mission seems clear...more advocacy, lobbying, activism, impact (and unfortunately, raising more money for our cause.) at a local, state and federal level. For us this is hard, because we are all running programs to save our kids lives. So our time and resources are limited. Yet, this is the methodology of change in our governmental culture. So we will have to rise to it. No matter who is elected, we will have to pursue this hard to be heard along with all the other advocacy voices. My own story from Texas is this...we fought a battle with our insurance company for three years, a time in which the company treated us horribly and broke state laws over and over again with no penalty.Meanwhile, we sold our home to pay for therapy and made other dramatic changes to keep body and soul together. In time, we wrote or delt directly with our federal congressmen, our governor, our federal senators, state senators and congressmen...on an on. Who did we get help from? ...our Republican Senator Kay Baily Huthison and a Democrat state congressman Sibly...their offices both made true inquiries, stayed in touch with us and invested an interest. Why? The only reason I could figure was that they had a fine office staff and/or an interest in the issue of insurance justice. I'll be voting for what I consider the lesser of two, well, not evils but you know. Either way, we've got our work cut out for us. By the way, I'm only commenting on this kind of off topic discussion because the wonderful list owner started it:) all love, kat
