Guest guest
I am working with a holistic doctor, and he has me taking red yeast rice, grapefruit pectin, and policosanol in a three-month test...in June, I will have my bloodwork done and see how my body has responded. Trouble is, I think I am having some muscle pain as a reponse to the red yeast, although it is a relatively lower pain level than with the prescription statins. I went on a three day cruise after one month on this new regimen, and it was so hectic that my medication schedule just fell by the wayside. I felt absolutely fabulous physically, running up and down stairs all over the ship all day! It was not until I returned to my full regimen on the fourth day that I began to have a general all-over ache and stiffness once again. To be fair, the level of discomfort is minor compared to what it was like on prescription statins, but I sense that it is very easy for me to experience discomfort simply because some long term damage happened on prescription statins. I have no proof of this, just make sense to me. I will follow through with the three months if it gets no worse than this, but I am paying close atrrention. What seems to be the case with me...any time I do a small exertion that my muscles don't like (like trying too hard to open a jar lid) it becomes a chronic injury which won't go away when I am on statins. The muscles don't seem to be able to recover. I am 65 - I should not have to deal with this at all, but I must convince my wholistic MD of this fact, I guess! I will return armed with info from this column. Guest guest
RE reactions - I was about 50 when I went on Lipitor and am not sure how long into it I was, but I wound up with excruciating cramps in my legs and abdomen - often just reaching for things - legs were often at night. Finally I was afraid to go to sleep and so at 2 am one night went online and started researching the statins. I also had just about giving up running as I was very tight and very sore for days after a run, which had never been the case. I thought I was just dehydrated or low on electrolytes, and tried remedying those, but finally went off the statins after seeing they help VERY few people. And I saw that very scary warning on the label "Contact your doctor (not tomorrow, or after dinner) but IMMEDIATEDLY - if you have new muscle pain or soreness. IMMEDIATEDLY?? I wondered, I had never seen a warning like that, and my loser doctor didnt warn me about it. 'what could be happening? And then along with that warning, the copy "(whatever statin) has not been shown to prevent heart attacks or heart disease" I assumed that was a typo - the word NOT - of course, it had to be, right??? Why else would you go on these drugs that also deplete the most important enzyme in your body, that your heart desperately needs? Well I found out it was not a typo and then just banged my head on the wall a few times and had a few stiff drinks...and figured I would wake up from this dream, er, nightmare. It is a true nightmare, and people are dying out there due to the statins, not because they are not on them. Within a few weeks of going off my last try at the statin versions, the cramps were gone and I felt like running was effortless, and 10 minutes after my run I could not even tell that I went. My next doctor thinks I should still be on them - and I haved tried all of them with no difference. I cant believe I did not have severe kidney damage. I am just exercising, eating right, getting sun to keep my immune system strong and try not to think about how much real healthcare we could buy for the $25 billion we spend yearly on this class of drugs that doesnt work work. I think it will go down as the biggest scam in drug industry history. Off for a run... KipTom Pilitowski <tpilitowski@...> wrote: Same results in what way? Muscle pain? Guest guest
Just read the the old post and find out. Most of us have the "normal" side effects that it says you can have... My hubby had the muscle pain, weakpainful in the legs. Memory, what memory, would forget what he was saying, and where he was going, while driving.. Told the Card dr, and the GP one, both said it could not be a statin... figure that one out... We use natural as much as possible, even though I am not really that worried about the cholesterol. I think they want it lowered to get more people on theirmeds, just like people that are diabetic. when hubby had his HA and quadby pass the number was 150 for diabetic, now they to have it lowered to 100, why? to get more people on the meds... I really don't trust to many Drs. they mostly know one thing, keep writing those prescriptions...they have added a new med to his metaformin, not doing good, knockinghis numbers down to 60. which makes him weak. I know you did not askabout that med. it just goes to show you though... ok enough..JudyinMOCare to expound?DFrom: Ed Gundy <edgundy >Subject: From Our Newest MemberLipitor Date: Friday, May 9, 2008, 10:58 PMHere is the entry comment to the group from our newest member.
