Lee, I don't understand. Your blood pressure at 128/70

certainly did not require meds, and at 90/48 it looks almost dangerous to

me. Why are you still taking meds?

I want to get off the BP medication but

since having a stent implanted in Jan of 07 the Doc's wanted me to get

my BP lower....An interesting side note, my BP was always around 134/74

when about three months before the heart attack it jumped to 155/90,

whether the change in BP had anything to do with the little internal

volcano going off inside my artery is an interesting question. I wish

I knew the answer to that.

I sent my Doc an email asking about the low BP, let's see what he has

to say....I'll share it with the gang

Lee..

Hi Lee,

were you taking BP drugs before your attack? If so, what kind?

I know that beta blockers have a side effect that includes strokes and

heart attacks.

Hi Lee,

You guest right. You had a blockage and it took more force to get the blood through the artery. See that is what your blood pressure means. Its how hard your heart has to pump the blood throught your heart to circulate your blood. Hope this helped. Best wishes. Bill

Many people don't realize the heart muscle itself is passively perfused.

When the ventricles contract the left ventricle pushes a large pulse of blood out into the aorta.

The aorta is elastic and expands in response to the pressure and volume.

When the left ventricle stops contracting and relaxes it is now in a low pressure state relative tot eh aorta. Blood starts to backflow into the ventricle and in doing so entrains the cusps of the Aortic Valve which snap shut.

The they snap shut they are no longer covering the entrance to the Left and Right Coronary Arteries. The suddenly interrupted backflow of blood is now diverted into the left and right coronary arteries and supplies the heart muscle with oxygen and nutrients.

Just an interesting fact to keep myocardial perfusion in perspective.
