Guest guest
We did go see " The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe " last weekend. Very good! Before that, it was " Crash " last summer. My son and husband go more often than I do. Guest guest
I saw " I, Robot " the other day. That was good! Since I don't like computer animations, I wasn't sure I'd be able to watch it at all, but now I'm glad I did. Will was perfect as the detective, and the animated Robot was actually rather cute and sympathetic. Some animated fighting scenes did get a bit overwhelming though, so I'm glad I saw it on TV and not at a cinema. (At the millennium shift, I voted for the remote as the best invention of the century.) :-) Inger Re: Gibber jabber during a show. Guest guest
This rings a vague bell.. Was it that one with Faye Dunaway? Inger Re: Gibber jabber during a show. I've watched shows that were excellent only last a few weeks and dumb shows continue for a few years. It got so every time a good show came out I knew it would be cancelled. I've noticed though, that in the past few years the producers have gotten smart about producing a show that's not too dumb but only has enough interesting or smart parts to it to make it a little interesting without people rejecting it. And they've gotten clever in how to present things so people won't reject them. Like the show Numb3ers is really just a crime drama (like the billions of others--is that all people like?!) but it has the not too potent spice of math peppered in to make it a little interesting. It makes people feel they're watching something intelligent but not so they really have to think. That way the producers stay in the safe middle and net the viewers who want mindless shows with good looking people and action, and those who want a little interest but still don't want to think. It still doesn't take away from the fact that they don't even try to present really good programs anymore (except maybe PBS), and I find that depressing. I'll have a look when it comes on cable then. :-) I did rather enjoy Harry Potter, despite the profusion of computer animations. Don't mind if it's just the environment. It's moving creatures that give me the creeps. >> What's " Crash " ? > I found it interesting and realistic in its treatment of stereotyping: > http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375679/ That looks interesting too. Reminds me of this SF film about an earthling crashlanding together on a barren planet with his worst alien enemy, and finding that they had to try to help each other out if they were to survive (unfortunately I don't know the title in English). It was very touching at the end. Anyone who knows what film I'm talking about? > Yes -- " Network " does feature Faye Dunaway. Bit too long since I saw it to remember much of it, but I do remember enjoying it very much at the time. Inger

This is because most of them make it one season at most. I think it is a self-fulfilling prophecy: they don't expect it to last so they half-ass it making a product so mediocre that it is bound to fail. A lot of shows get made and then are aired once or twice if at all, before being canceled. They aught to go back like the 1950's and 1960's and make decent shows from the beginning. Just a little more effort, and an effort to make shows that would have universal appeal rather than to limited audiences or shows that mock the beliefs of the majority. Its little wonder why so many of these shows fail when they seem more intent on alienating their audiences than connecting with them. Guest guest
I'm new here, please understand if I'm clueless about stuff. I had the same problem to the point I just wanted to scream. My mom had raised us by "popping" us if we talked any time but the commercials. You learn quick that way, but can't really train your partner that way. LOL I decided to give this TIVO/DVR thing a go.I don't know if it's available everywhere but it's not too expensive here: free if you sign up with a Satellite provider and then like $5 a month. (forgive me if that's changed) Anyway, now I can just hit "Pause" or "Mute" and listen to my roommate when she interrupts. I can rewind when she's done talking or start it up again. Voila no more fights (about that anyway) Also if you start a show 15 minutes late you can fastforward thru the commercials. For me, it's awesome. I know this won't work for everyone and that talking it out would be better; but I never was able to get through to her. She thinks it's a great idea, by the way. I know it's probably not for available everywhere for one reason or another, but I've enjoyed it heather VISIGOTH@... wrote: Why is it that some people will walk into a room while you are watching the program on TV and then start talking about something totally superfluous? I really could care less about any of the many self-congratulatory puffery shows those empty-cans-called-actors put on for themselves. The narrator was describing some of the key points about Russian fighter aircraft that I had never heard before. So I did the logical thing: I told to hush for a minute until the show was over. She gets in a huff and walks out of the room having a little hissy fit. If she'd just kept her mouth shut for about another 3 minutes the show would have been over. My attention was already divided by reading posts on here. That's not hard to do because I can listen to the TV, which is near to my right and if I hear something interesting, I just stop typing and watch for a bit. On the other hand I can also mute the TV and pay attention to the longer and more detailed posts as well. Funny thing is, she'll get mad at me if I come to tell her something important while she is watching one of her programs.

Guest guest
I know I I'm lucky. (or at least arranged things to go my way) My roommate drives me in to work (I hate driving) and I can read the paper. No radio. No talk unless there is interesting news. I have my own office, top floor, end of the hall, stairway beside me and library on the other side. It's always very quiet. Ride home and then I go to my room for an hour and a half to just "chill" with the door shut.Everyone knows it's "quiet time." Then I'm ready to go for a few hours, then everyone goes to bed and I get a quiet house.Kathy <rrabbits@...> wrote: I think I would like the 'mute' button for real life. Guest guest
Hi and welcome, I think it's a great idea! I have a function like that on my new DH-DVD. My problem though is that when I'm watching a film, I get so immersed in it that if I'm interrupted, the spell is broken and I can't get back into it as deeply again. I've solved this by NOT sharing house with anyone. :-) Inger Re: Gibber jabber during a show. I'm new here, please understand if I'm clueless about stuff. Guest guest
One show I am having a problem with right now is NBC's " The Book of . " There is a movement underway between most Christians to have the show taken off the air. Never in the history of television have so many people written in to have a show cancelled. And in light of this, NBC has insisted that they will redouble their efforts to ensure that the show stays on the air even if the ratings fall to the lowest levels they have ever seen in the history of their network.
