This month, doctors at Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee began giving a mega-dose of 100,000 international units of vitamin D to all patients with chest pains. After that, they are advised to take 2,000 IU a day, said Whitcomb, an emergency room physician with the hospital. ....... Several observational studies this year have focused on low levels of the vitamin and increased risk of heart disease: --In a study involving 3,258 German heart patients, those in the lowest quarter for vitamin D blood levels had twice the risk of dying, especially from cardiovascular disease, compared with those in the top quarter. --Harvard researchers studying 18,225 men found that those with vitamin D levels below 15 ng/dl were 2.4 times more likely to have a heart attack than those with levels above 30 ng/dl. --Researchers followed 1,739 members of the Framingham Offspring Study for more than five years and found the rate of cardiovascular disease " events " such as heart attacks, strokes and heart failure was 53% to 80% higher in people with low levels of vitamin D in their blood. ....... <article continues> http://www.lef.org/news/LefDailyNews.htm?NewsID=7719 & Section=VITAMINS & source=DHB\ _081224 & key=Body+Title -- Steve - dudescholar4@... Guest guest
Canadian media today is reporting on great increases in cases of dementia. Canadians should flood their media with letters that these cases could very well be due to great increases in use of statin drugs. -

Guest guest
, It very well could be the statins causing the increase in dementia considering the HUGE marketing push on these drugs. I am reasearching more on the brain and learning how vital cholesterol is to cognitive function. In dietary articles, they cite organ meats and "brains are 3 times higher in cholesterol than eggs." Massachusetts General Hospital has some interesting statements on cholesterol and the brain, saying that 25% of your body's supply of cholesterol goes to the brain. They also discuss how important cholesterol is in synapses. http://geocities.com/flyinresorts/blog.html--- On Tue, 1/6/09, stephen ottridge <chingford@...> wrote: From: stephen ottridge <chingford@...>Subject: Re: Inspired by studies, doctors prescribing higher doses of vitamin DLipitor Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 1:33 AM Canadian media today is reporting on great increases in cases of dementia. Guest guest
So far it is just Global TV that is pushing this Alzheimers story. I've just emailed them with this comment. The greatest increase in prescription drug use amongst the middle aged and older is the statin drugs, Lipitor, Crestor and Zocor. The side effect of causing dementia , loss of memory etc is well known for these drugs yet denied by their manufacturers. Interesting that we are now getting this big increase overall in Alzheimers. Could someone do some correlations? This is the email address. Perhaps some more emails might prompt them to do a followup story. 'viewercontact@...' Guest guest
Bobby I read somewhere that the brain makes 50% of your cholesterol - that means 50% of the Statin targets the brain - and Statins cross the blood /brain barrier. By the way thankyou Pamela > > From: stephen ottridge <chingford@...> > Subject: Re: Inspired by studies, doctors prescribing higher doses of vitamin D > Lipitor > Date: Tuesday, January 6, 2009, 1:33 AM > > > > > > > > > > > Canadian media today is reporting on great increases in cases of dementia.
