Guest guest
Night sweats in men can be from high estradiol. If that's the case, you'll feel a lot better getting that under control. Guest guest
Ed, I recommend you join hypogonadism and read some of the archives. This is a list the specializes in low testosterone issues. You can always ask questions and there's a lot of feedback. I used to get my testosterone supplementation via trans-dermal methods and it raised my estradiol levels resulting in night sweats. I didn't know the cause of the night sweats and neither did any of my doctors at the time. I got my estradiol tested for another reason and tried to get an endo to treat. Two endo a* & ho/es wasted good cash and didn't know how to treat, nor would they. The solution is to use an aromatase inhibitors like Arimidex which prevents the conversion of testosterone to estradiol. <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aromatase_inhibitor> Another solution that often works is to switch from creams/gels/patches to injections, a solution which many men end up doing. I do injections and I much prefer them to patches/creams since it's a once a week thing and I don't have to worry about showers and contact issues. The needle I used is very small. The group I recommended above has a lot of people who also take HCG injections about twice a week. Since testosterone suppress LH, LH receptors which we may not know about don't get stimulated anymore when testosterone supplementation is started. One side effect of this is shrinking testicles, a problem which can be prevent with HCG injections. HCG mimics LH so one gets the same effect. You can read about this at http://www.allthingsmale.com/publications.html Click on " TRT: A Recipe for Success " and " HCG Update " to download these word doc files. They are quality protocols for treating low testosterone. The life extension foundation recently had an article on optimum estradiol levels for men based on a review of the literature. Their recommended range is 20-30 ng/mL. The lab reference range is 0 to 54 I think. Below 18 and osteoporosis increased and above 32 there was more than double the risk of stroke. There were other disease complication with too low or two high in the write up. This issue of The Life Extension Foundation's Magazine has several articles on testosterone related issues. It's now available online for free reading. December 2008 http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2008/mag2008_12.htm In the November 2008 http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2008/mag2008_11.htm There is the article on estradiol in men including recommendations for high estradiol testing and treatment. You might want to print this out for your doctor. http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2008/nov2008_Dangers-of-Excess-Estrogen-in-the-Ag\ ing-Male_01.htm In your case, you'll need the high sensitive test for estradiol. If you are using gels/creams and still want to do so, The Life Extension foundation also has a recommend prescription that your doctor can write (example in the Dec 2008 magazine above) for compounding cream/gels that are a lot more concentrated and therefore a lot cheaper and easier to apply since it takes a lot less. Compounding hormones seem to always be a lot cheaper and that's important given that many insurance plans won't pay for testosterone. Steve Ed Gundy wrote: > > > what is that? Guest guest
Ed, I hope you feel better soon. Estradiol is an estrogen (E2). Its the estrogen that gives females their beautiful curves. You will probably feel better taking the testosterone cream as it boosts testosterone levels. But some of that testosterone will convert to estradiol, which could induce gynecomastia ( Man Boobs). Body builders are very familiar with this. You may be interested in decreasing estradiol with DIM while on the testosterone therapy. This helps metabolize estrogens from the body. DIM stands for a big word for something found in cruciferious vegetables. By consuming more cruciferious veggies and taking DIM, this should help reduce estradiol levels and maybe ( big maybe) prevent Manboobs from happening while on the testosterone cream. The ideal testosterone/Estradiol ratio in men is in the 25/1 to 30/1 arena. As we age, that ratio declines as testosterone decreases and estrogen increases. Simply take your total testosterone and divide by the Estradiol. That's your ratio. Losing weight helps reduce estrogen levels as fat cells help convert testosterone into Estradiol. So a person with lean muscle mass would have lower estrogens than an overweight guy. As you take this testosterone cream, your physician should be monitoring your Testosterone/ E2 levels, Bobby -- In Lipitor , " Ed Gundy " <edgundy@...> wrote: > > what is that?
