Guest guest
Hi everyone, A week or two back there was a discussion of how to get a child to stop adding words to the end of a response that don't belong there. The example I gave was trying to teach the reversal of Sd: What has a whistle? R: Train So when we started to teach the reversal, Sd: What does a train have? His response would be, R: Whistle train. We put a new procedure in place last week that has solved our problem. When he does this, we do an echoic of the response we want two times, then ask the question again, and he gives the response we want. So the whole thing would now look like this: Sd: What does a train have? R: Whistle train. Sd: (Say) whistle. (Some people say " say " , and others don't....do what works for your child.) R: Whistle. Sd: (Say) whistle. R: Whistle. Sd: What does a train have? R: Whistle. I just wanted to pass this on because it has made a big difference in getting the responses we want without a lot of extraneous stuff in between.
