Guest guest
Britta makes one that goes on the faucet. It isn't pretty but it works really well. They use a carbon filter which I recommend for proper filteration. I have tested the H2o after installing the filter and it has taken the chlorine out. The cost was about $ 35. Replacement filters around $16 / 3months. Tiff Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Water Filter suggestions Hi everybody, We have municipal water with chlorine and I'm tired of carrying home bottled water for my kombucha. I want to buy a water filter or purifier for my home for under $100.00. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Kathy
Guest guest
Yes now here's something I know about! I used to harbor saltwater fish. I used an R.O unit for my water NO OTHER water ever went in!. I'm not sure about the $100 but this is a company that I have delt with and have been very happy with their equipment. First of all. One thing I do regardless of my horrible eating habits is I do exclusively drink R.O water! Even my cat max is NEVER given tap water. It's NASTY!!!! full of all kinds of crud yes CRUD! If I ain't drinkin it he ain't neither he's my buddy! So.... check out www.waterfiltersonline.com/ the 4 stage is what I have with a bigger R.O membrane. No I am not a salesman and I have no interests here at all! Just good solid equipment. Price this against like Culligan equipment! Guest guest
Kathy, even Brita and Pure filters will remove chlorine if that's all you want to. If you want to remove other stuff...especially fluoride, you aren't going to find something for that price. I've drunk bottled water for years because of fluoride, but I too got tired of hauling bottled water home and it got expensive once I started drinking a gallon of water plus KT and water kefir a day. Anyway, do your research carefully. There is a pitcher filter that claims to remove fluoride BUT the fluoride is removed with an aluminum compound which leaves the possibility of putting aluminum in your drinking water, something you definitely don't want to do. Basically, reverse osmosis and distillation are the only things that really remove virtually all contaminants safely. You have to add minerals back into distilled water, but that's easy with a little sea salt. Anyway, just wanted to pass on some tips before you make a decision. Guest guest
In your opinion what is the best water? We eat a good amount of veggies but not enough. We tend to eat the same ones. Always organic and do limit corn and potatos. I do a better job than the kids. Veggie challanged. Our diet does not have the variety it needs. I am not sure about kt for the kids so I really need to begin keifer. They do take a whole food vit and probiotic but need more real stuff. Have been concerned about water. They drink plenty just need it to be better quality. Very intested in your thoughts. Would love to improve my kt with quality water. Guest guest
Except for my water kefir I use reverse osmosis exclusively and that is what I use for my KT. I " import " well water for my water kefir. I would rather take a whole foods supplement than expect water to give me the minerals I need if I were not getting enough fruits and veggies. If I feel I haven't been eating right I will take a Nature's Plus Ultra Juice and Green Lightning tab/cap. But....I really do try to eat the veggies and fruits, berries, nuts and seeds rather than get them from a supplement. Guest guest
One thing you might want to think about. The old saying is very important here..ready...here goes.. " you get what you pay for " The cheaper on the faucet kinds, pitchers etc. will nickle and dime you to death with replacement carbon modules. Been there done that! The other thing for me with those is, How the world do I know for sure I shouldn't have changed the module a week ago? They say good for 30 days...well it should have said X number of gallons. But to insult our intellegence even more they figure 2.4 people live in this house and are going to drink X amount of water each day....WRONG! This has all the makings for killing off your precious scoby! They also are quite lacking for removing all the nasties out of the water. If chlorine is mostly all your worried about then go for it, but if you are really wanting " pure " water then it's either R.O. or distilled. The 4 stage at waterfiltersonline is a FINE unit. I think it's like $175...or so. If you add up the cost of a britta and 12 months worth of accessories/filters I'll bet it will be a close race. The R.O. membrane will last you more than a year . That's the expensive one. The others filters you can pick up from them or any local hardware store. This unit uses industry standard sizes. This unit is more than capable of giving my wife, me and the cat plenty of Ultra pure drinking water, including tea and coffee making everyday. Oh don't worry, they hook up really easy under the sink or where ever you want to put it. Hope this isn't a bore...sorry. Good luck! Guest guest
Thanks for the info. This has been a long journey which I hope is coming to an end. There is a lot of info out there and many products to choose from. But I know you are right with the " you only get what you pay for " . Guest guest
I am totally 100% new to that part of all this. I just know about the water filters from keeping exotic saltwater fish for many many years. I had a huge test kit that checked for anything you can mention (daily chore). With the fish, metal was also a huge thing. Kill them all very quickly. In saltwater, metals are highly toxic! The higher the PH goes the more toxic waste materials become. Oh well,....save up or whatever but when the time comes buy yourself the BEST water filter system your budget will allow you! Don Arnold <tiff6arnolds@...> wrote: Thanks for the info.
