Guest guest
Hi First ..Try to leave the brew alone.. unless you are doing continuous brewing... It brew nicely all by itself... This way you have a nice SCOBY, not that this is important... Often the SCOBY is not nice and pearly. SCOBY from green Tea are usually pearly white.. Those from Pu-Errh tea are brownish. Both brew food KT. An active brew often presents " spent " yeast.. these brownish strings in the brew... If you do not like them just filter them.. They are innocuous. Mold is very different looking, fuzzy... hairy and greenish.. The consensus is to get rid of everything, Brew and infected SCOBY, once you see them.. I doubt that this is the case based on your description however... Frantz Irina <sleduuschaya@...> wrote: My Kombucha is growing a very messy looking scoby with whitish/grayish " clouds " . I know I often " disturb " it's uniform growth by adding more tea and taking before a nice-looking round scoby gets a chance to grow. But lately I've been thinking that may be my Kombucha is growing mold? I saw pictures and it's hard to tell - some pictures of mold look like what I have, some " normal " growth pictures look as what I have... Is there a taste difference? Smell? Thanks in advance! Guest guest
Hi Irina, Time will tell whether or not you have normal growth or mold. Wait and see but please do not drink any Kombucha that had mold on it. Some molds are toxic and some are not but there is no reason to take the chance. If you have any Kombucha tea from a previous batch that was not exposed to mold you can start another batch while waiting to see what happens with the one you are concerned about.
