Went to bulk mailhey everyone, hope you all had a great holiday :) Thaddeus is going in on Monday for cast 5! this will be the fist mehta cast since his hip surgery on Nov9.I am a bit worried about him only being 8 weeks post op and going to be in traction when the cast go's on. Thaddeus has just been cleared for bearing weight and pool PT. he is afraid to put to much weight on his legs right now but that is normal. i am trying to get him up as much as possible before monday. has anyone else had their child go for casting soon after hip surgery??? Im excited to see what amount of correction we will get in this cast. i will keep you all posted Mom to Thaddeus 3yrs old on Jan 23 Sent from Samsung Mobile

Hi -- another member tipped me off to your message. My daughter also

has both hip and spine issues, and has previously been in several spica casts,

which addressed her shallow sockets. Unfortunately, we recently found out that

her right hip is out and the doctor recommended surgery with screws and such

(sorry, forgot the name), which will delay our spine casting (currently in cast

#4).

I was hoping you could tell me more about your son's hip surgery and what you

did with the spine during that time -- I assume you just " paused " on the spine

casts?

Hi, Thaddeus was not in any spica casts prior to his surgery. he did wear a brace for a bit but then we thought the hips were stable to continue with out the brace. after 3 mehta cast he was going from 56* to 32* in cast and it made it hard to the hip to stay in place. noticed he wouldn't put full weigh on his right leg and went into the hospital after a phsyio said to go. he needed emergency surgery on both hips and had it done 1 week later. he had bilateral hip surgery. they had to break the femur bone and and position it better in the socket and he has meatal plates in both legs that will be removed in November. he was in a hip spica cast for 4 weeks and the dr just applied it tighter around the back to hold his spine at 56* but couldn't get any correction because the severaty of the surgery. the hip cast came off Dec 6 and he has now been in a hip brace, but we are having numerous issues with the brace. not with his hips but the behind the leg and knees... we are getting it checked out tomorrow and xrays done because we are going in for our next cast monday. i wanted to make sure he is ready for the procedure. he is still not doing Phsyio and not back walking. he is afraid its going to hurt so we will do Pool PT ( thaddeus has a dry suit) and hopfully that will get him going. our Dr said he should be back to normal by Feb but i dont think that will be the case because if he doesnt want to walk now with out the cast it will be much harder with the weight of the cast. he just needs to get the confidence to get

going. Mom to Thaddeus From: airlinebuff98 <airlinebuff98@...> infantile scoliosis treatment Sent: Thursday, January 5, 2012 3:57:51 AM Subject: Re: Thaddeus cast 5 on monday.

Hi -- another member tipped me off to your message. My daughter also has both hip and spine issues, and has previously been in several spica casts, which addressed her shallow sockets. Unfortunately, we recently found out that her right hip is out and the doctor recommended surgery with screws and such (sorry, forgot the name), which will delay our spine casting (currently in cast #4).

I was hoping you could tell me more about your son's hip surgery and what you did with the spine during that time -- I assume you just "paused" on the spine casts?

Thaddeus has just been cleared for bearing weight and pool PT. he is afraid to put to much weight on his legs right now but that is normal. i am trying to get him up as much as possible before monday. has anyone else had their child go for casting soon after hip surgery???

Thinking of you guys this a.m. Please let us know how it went when you

can. I hope todays cast will improve his balance a bit and help him with

a more confidence in walking...He'll be running around soon!
