Ooops! Typo alert!!! Happy ~*~ 2002~*~ :)

P.S. I forgot to add some GOOD news. Yesterday, on Dec 31st, the

last day of 2001, my 18 year old son (*unmedicated* ADHD+mild

OCD) got his GED results. He PASSED !!!!

Yipeeeee!!! Woooo Hoooo!!!! I'm so thrilled for him.

When he took his GED test in early December, he came home with his

head down LOW. He felt as though he had BOMBED it. The test was

alot harder than the practice tests he had taken. The most amazing

thing is that never picked up a book, nor did study for this

GED. I was livid, but then I realized " It's his life and I can't

MAKE him study. " So naturally, I'm amazed that he passed, and so is

he.

Wonders never cease!!! Now, if I can just get him to sit still for

college classes, we'll be on our way!

my daughter also gained a lot of weight on Risperdal, and also on

Seroquel, although the Seroquel had no effect on her moods either-- Back on

Risperdal, and I think the rash was a coincidence,--these things do happen.

But mostly writing to mention Geodon, which she has been on since June, and

it has been the most successful at treating her rages-- its not supposed to

cause the same kind of sedation or weight gain, and perhaps that is true for

others, but she is now on thyroid meds to counteract those side effects. My

point is this med, Geodon, not as well known as the others, but we found it a

successful alternative you might want to mention to your docs.

Dear Joni,

I missed your original post about this, but I thought I'd give you

one suggestion :

can you learn to voluntarily vomit? (if not, Annie could teach you) Then,

when you feel threatened, puke! Exposure for him and safety for you, all in

one fell swoop.

But seriously, I'm sorry you're once again going through a tough

time. It's amazing how it goes in waves, isn't it? For a while was

doing so well. I hope Anafranil is the solution for him . I know that

untreated OCD causes tremendous, explosive anger. I hope his new doc will

help him learn more productive ways to channel that anger. I think I'm very

lucky that I have a girl with OCD - when she gets furious she just uses her

wicked little tongue, and rolls those eyes and slams doors. But at least i

don't feel physically threatened. That is a nightmare.

Best wishes,

Hi -

I hope things are getting better at your house! I totally empathize

with the work thing. I feel so distracted and foggy when I'm at work

and the kids are sick. There are days where I either worry about

getting a call from the teacher, or I worry that if I didn't, I need

to call and check on him. My husband has over 600 hours of paid

leave that he's got saved up, but I'm the one who has to leave work

and get sick kids. Unpaid. I'm just a little crabby this morning

because he started the day with " my job is so important-you take care

of him. " If he only read about the " important work " that we are all

doing for our kids it may change is tone a little...

Anyway-sorry! How is handling all the antibiotics? Does he get

any side effects? We found chewable acidopholus (sp?)to help out

with his belly while on antibiotics. loves it because it tastes

good, and he doesn't get all the belly side effects of the

antibiotics. Keep us posted. Have a great day. Janet

Lithium while she was in the hospital (along with her already taking Topamax

and

Zoloft.) Well....the Lithium didn't work for her. It continued to make her even

more irritable after she came home. So after seeing her psychiatrist....she

had stop the Lithium and instead try her on Abilify. I was a bit

reluctant since she had been on it some years ago and it did nothing....but at

that time, she was also on Seraquel too and she quickly gained 30 pounds and

for that reason, became even more depressed. But I figured we'd try again

this time there is no Seraquel involved. Well...it's now been just over a

So

I started telling her I had noticed she was doing things on her own around

the house....doing things I asked the first time I asked.....having really

nice

conversations with her step dad....etc. She laughed....and said " yeah it's

weird....I don't know what's wrong with me! But I just feel really happy. " No

weight gain at all....as a matter of fact....she's lost weight. She's down

to her normal weight of 100 pounds and eating right too. She's even cleaned

her room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She said the mess has been driving her

crazy!! OMG!!!!!! Her step dad and I are just blown away by the change in

her.

She even goes places with him alone...which in the past, she couldn't do

cause they'd always end up in a huge blow-out. She even calls him Dad now and

says she wishes that he could adopt her. She made me this beautiful framed

collage of pictures of angels and a poem about me being a good Mom and a

strong

woman.

She's also started school too. It was decided at the IEP that they would pay

for to attend that private school I had found here. They transport

her and/or reimburse me for mileage. She seems to really like the school. She

even asked me if she could attend their summer school so that she could earn 10

extra credits toward graduation. (Funny....she's an A student and WANTS to

go to summer school....and my stepdaughter is failing 7th grade....and HAS to

attend summer school but of course doesn't want to.) She even got a job this

past weekend at Mc's down the street. So she'll be starting that this

week too. (I can't believe they start at $8 an hour! My first job paid

$2.31....years ago.) But then this is Los Angeles....and most of the money

will go

to pay for car insurance and gas!

Anyway..........I must run. I just wanted to update you all. Keep your

Hi Dina --

My daughter is also among the great success stories of Abilify. She is

still on Luvox -- 150 mg. as well as 37.5 mg. Effexor (down from 150 mg.). We

will wean her off Effexor in the summer. She is just feeling so good that she

is afraid to change the med mix right now, and the pdoc agreed.
