Guest guest
Hello Group, If anyone else if casting on Monday 3/5 at SLC, feel free to say 'hi' to us! , now 5, has been casting since he was 2 and we are excited to see some snow. I'm hoping he does okay in pre-op. He hates the versed and then has been crying before casting...if anyone has any advice, let me know. We've been practicing the 'yucky medicine' with water. (Some kids do great, but gets fussy/anxious). Hope everyone is well. Just too busy to post here much anymore. Mom to , kyphoscoliosis secondary to neuroblastoma dx 2 mo. Guest guest
Hi , We were just there Thurs! We had a male nurse named Jon this last time who was so wonderful (they all are!) He mixed Levi's versed with Tylenol & cherry flavoring maybe? I think that is what he said.... & let me be the one to give it to Levi. It went really well this time & he took it all down. Hope that helps? Guest guest
I don't know if this will help but my son who was casted at 7 years had taken Versed with a previous surgery and REALLY didn't want to take it again. He got upset when they brought it in for him. So, the doctor told him you don't have to take it. He gave him an iPad to look at until it was time for him to go back and he really calmed down. They also let him pick out a flavored chapstick to coat the inside of his mask with so that it smells good. Anyway, he just didn't take it and all went smoothly. Good luck!! Guest guest
Hi, Jaylin didn't take any medicine before his casting, and he did really great. He too got too got to play with a toy on his way and he picked out orange flavor for his mask maybe he would be fine without it.Live, laugh, and loveJoyOn Mar 3, 2012, at 5:30 PM, Mock <rjnmock@...> wrote: I don't know if this will help but my son who was casted at 7 years had taken Versed with a previous surgery and REALLY didn't want to take it again. Guest guest
Honestly it was the worst part of casting and i think it made him sick and sleep longer in recovery than without it. The nurse that took him back to the OR was always great with toys and all. I didnt think it was necessary. Heck he didnt have it before MRIs or brain surgery! Guest guest
Thank you so much. Just reading " I know how you feel " means a lot, because right now there are so many emotions and most of them are ones that I couldn't even begin to explain to someone who hasn't walked this walk. Guest guest
Hi ,I was terribly worried before casting and you just can't explain it well enough until you do it. You will find ways to do everything you are worried about and so will your daughter. You will be amazed. Take a deep breath and just know it will be fine. This is a gentle process, no incisions. My doctor told me-once you choose the surgical route that's where you have to stay, so let's give casting a chance. Good luck!! Guest guest
Hi and everyone, We were also in SLC on Thursday 23rd because my daughter fina had her 3rd cast on. Luckily everything went well, Dr D was happy with results, she is doing better of her rotation and her curve has stayed almost in the same number (2 degress down was in 52º now in 48-50º). Nurse this time was Rita, she was wonderful with and they also gave her the medicine with cherry flavour which she took it Ok. Now we are going back mid-may. We still have a long way to go as fina´s curve without cast was really high (90º). na Mom to fina from Montevideo, Uruguay On Sat, Mar 3, 2012 at 3:53 PM, Amber Scholl <amber@...> wrote: Hi ,We were just there Thurs! Guest guest
Hey ! Great to hear from you. Versed is the worst. After years of begging Liv to take it, I finally just gave up. She did just fine without it. At one point, we were actually wiping her tongue off with a wet towel. Yuck.
