Guest guest
Hi Katja, from what I have read and experienced myself (accidently) it doesn't matter whether it goes in upside down, I am not sure if it actually rights itself, but it sure did produce a beautiful baby with a bright cheerful face! I know that some say that it can only be right side up, but there are those that say it doesn't matter, so I wouldn't worry too much about it!! I just started three gallons of new brew fermenting. I had some thick older SCOBYs and some thinner babies, and I harvestedthe nicest looking SCOBY for a friend, and then just divided up what wasleft amongst the three jars, and I'm certain that one or more of theSCOBYs went back into the jars the wrong way round. Sigh. Will anyupside-down SCOBYs right themselves? Will they grow babies anyway? Thanks for all help! Guest guest
Hi Katja...it is no mistake! As Jeani said, it does not matter. They can be upside down, right side up, on the top, in the middle or on the bottom! Frequently they will start one place and end up in another! Right now I have one in the middle of a 2 1/3 gallon (approx 10 liter) brew that is merrily floating sideways, edge up, half way between the top and bottom of the jar. All good! :- ) Oh, and you don't have to use a whole SCOBY. Just a piece will do if it's all one can get and it can be any shape...wedge, half circle, etc. Gayle SCOBY Orientation? > Hi all, > > Is it a big mistake or a little mistake if the SCOBY goes into the new > brew upside down? > ~Katja, near Sacramento
