I agree there. The more I sit around, the worse I hurt. If I get up and get moving and do something, I either forget about the pain or it lessens it, I'm not sure which. About two months ago, I woke up with my left wrist so painful and swollen that I couldn't even move my fingers. I had to do everything with one hand and just hold the other one out in the air. My right one was painful too, but not like that. This was a throbbing pain and any movement increased it. So I went into the kitchen, fed the dogs(a major undertaking because I do rescue and have about seven or so), and then started to do dishes. Once I got my wrist moving, and in the hot water, the pain decreased. When I finished, I came in to the computer, and it got bad again. I spent the whole day sort of cleaning in the kitchen, and washing things and straightening up, and by evening it wasn't too bad. Every time I'd stop and just rest, it would start hurting again. I also feel much better psychologically when I'm doing things.

Most of my joints are like that. If I'm sitting, the pain starts, but if I move around, go somewhere, do something, it gets better. I take placquenil, and sometimes Ibuprofen at night for my hips, so I can sleep, but it really doesn't do much. If I could walk around all night, I'd probably be fine<g>.

Subject: Re:Exercise

I've been reading the posts about how much everyone hurts. I take Humira, Methotrexate, Prednisone - you know, the works. But I also do whatever kind of exercise I can. I do Pilates, I try and get on the exercise bike and do weights. I do a lot of stretching (which feels really good). I do think that trying to get your body to move helps with the pain. There are days when I'm too tired to do much. But I keep weights at my house - 10 pound weights, ankle weights, exercise bands. Even when things are hurting, I feel better when I can do some movement, even if it is only stretching. Maybe it's just psychological - I don't feel like I'm giving into the disease quite as much. I realize it's a day to day thing. But attitude is so important in dealing with a chronic disease. Whatever I can do to take back some part of my body helps my attitude and gives me hope for better days ahead.
