Guest guest
Hi fellow CMTers I too suffer with shoulder/neck pain. I find; when I walk, stand or sit it is my upper body doing all the work. My shoulders hold me up. This strain & over worked shoulder & neck muscles result in major migraine headaches. I now wear a neck braces, which reduces my neck muscles from become over worked. This has also cut down on migraine. I still get them but not as often. When I feel a migraine coming on or my shoulders are outrageously tense, I use my message machine. It is called a Samurai Shiatsu. This is the only message machine I have found that is easy to use & will message my shoulder blades deep, long & hard. I find that my shoulders become so tense & hard it takes a long deep message to loosen up those muscles. You can find these Samurai Shiatsu message machine @ Zellers, The Bay or any department store... Wishing you much relief.. I have not had this problem with ra before, so it is new to me also. Let me know how you are doing, and what the Rheumy says. Hugs, B. -- [ ] shoulder pain Hi Guys, Hope everybody is having a good day. I was wondering does anyone have severe shoulder pain My shoulders have become very painful. What do you do for it? I am thinking of calling the Rheumy because I am in a flare and not sure what to do. I don't want the predisone raised because I am not on Fosamax. Taking darvocet but not sure how much I can take with my stomach. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Lynn
Guest guest
Sorry to hear about your shoulders, Lynn. Yes, I've had severe shoulder pain in my right shoulder. In the beginning, it was so bad that I couldn't sleep. I used a microwaveable " rice sock " and that did bring some relief (as long as it was almost hot - dang thing cools down fairly fast). Other people like ice. The rheumatologist I was seeing then gave me one cortisone injection, and that helped for a few months. It has calmed down now, but the rotator cuff is torn. The left shoulder is painful, too, but it never has been as bad as the right. I've trained myself to sleep on my back and baby them - I'm very careful while doing the yard work or snow shoveling; even vacuuming can stir up trouble. My basketball game has gone to hell now because of my shoulders. Can't even challenge the aging neighborhood men anymore to a game of one-on-one. It's alright though, the kids don't want to witness that anyway. Please do call your rheumatologist. Let us know what he says, OK? [ ] shoulder pain > Hi Guys, > Hope everybody is having a good day. Guest guest
Good luck with your shoulder and elbow pain, B. I'm glad you are seeing your rheumatologist so soon. Let us know what he recommends for you. I hope you can find a way to be comfortable until then. Have you ever tried a " rice sock " ? Guest guest
Hi , ` I didn't call the Rheumy yet. I will probably call him tomorrow. I know he will want to up the predisone but I don't think that is a good idea. I am not on fosamax so I have to be careful of the predisone I take. See what happens tomorrow. Guest guest
Hi , You really suffer with your shoulders. I think I am just in a flare. My hips and knees are bad too. I don't want the predisone put any higher because I am not on the fosamax. I will call him maybe tomorrow but I think he will want to up the predisone. I am getting hit with everything here at once. Everyone I talk to tells me not to do the scope. That they said a year and I should wait the year. Still haven't heard from my primary whether he got in touch with to or not. If he had he would have called me though and said something. I will just see how the next few weeks go. Guest guest
is having lots of trouble with his broken collar bone. It looks like its gonna poke right out of the skin at any moment. He is having trouble with his back as well. He is seeing the ortho dr today. I don't know but he may have to do surgery to help him. I am afraid that if they don't do anything that it will only cause him more problems. also has to cater like scabs under his hair near his ear, where is side burns would be. They are as big as my finger tip. He says he has no pain or itching. There was a mole there a few weeks ago but it was real light in color and it wasn't big at all. I kinda freaked out when I saw it last night. I decide to ask the ortho dr what he thinks it is and if he should be treated or checked. The reason why iam so freaked is cause someone i knew had a couple of moles. nothing big or dark or nasty but they turned into skin cancer. I just think jesse has been through so much that if its something serious his poor little body is just gonna give out. I will keep myself from worrying until I have something solid to worry about. I will let you all know what happens today when sees the dr. also goes to his post-op appt and hearing test today. he is doing great. seems to be speaking more clearly. He also isn't as loud as he use to be. ya'll take care

Guest guest
Hi , When my shoulders are hurting I wear my loosest, most comfortable bras if I go out. Although they give me less support, it's still some support and it' s more comfortable. I would look for a bra one size larger than you normally wear, and keep the straps a little looser. Hopefully someone will have a better idea. Hugs, Carol [ ] shoulder pain Anyone answer this if you can. What do you do about bras-it kills when I wear it and I can't not, at least not in public? Guest guest
Welcome, Tim! I'm no stranger to shoulder pain. I like to garden, too, but I find that it's usually not the best thing for my shoulders. Try not to dig too vigorously or yank things out of the ground. I've found that babying them and applying heat work well. I don't sleep on either side anymore - had to retrain myself to sleep on my back. A few years ago, when I was in acute pain from my right shoulder, an injection of cortisone helped immensely for a few months. I've found boswellia to be a good anti-inflammatory, but I can't say that it helps much with my shoulders when they are bothering me a lot. Hope you can find something that works for you. Guest guest
Somewhere in reading about CMT2, it mentioned that the shoulders are sometimes involved. Mine defintely are although one ortho MD has brought up the DX of possible rotator cuff problem. I am sorry that I cannot recall just where I found this info: if I do find it again, I will forward it. P.
Guest guest
Hi... it's been awhile since I've posted (one month into nursing school) but I wanted to put in my two cents about the shoulder pain. My RA started like that. I had unbelievable pain in my shoulder that woke me up one night and only lying in the hot bathtub brought any relief whatsoever. The following night it happened in the other shoulder. Two weeks later the symetrical joint pain typical of RA started and stayed in my feet, wrists, fingers etc... I'm now on Methotrexate and doing well. Did anyone else's RA start similar to this with " wandering " joint pain before settling in to the " norm. " ? I hope that your shoulder pain goes away without further problems and I didn't read back far enough to know what your diagnosis is but if your doctor didn't run blood tests, I just wanted you to know that I started out with similar pain... not to scare you. I just wanted to put out a happy " nursing school is going great and even with the stress... no major flare ups. " So... I feel very lucky and will have the opportunity to possibly work with research on RA while in school so I'll keep you posted on the newest, latest and greatest. Wishing everyone a good week... pain free or lessened at the least.
Guest guest
Hello, Yes, I had horrible shoulder pain about five years ago (finally diagnosed with RA one *month* ago) that made it impossible to sleep or lift my arm. I took ibuprofen for it then, and saw a GP, who thought it was tendonitis. From what I know of RA, it can cause tendonitis; I hadn't done any physical activity at that time to cause the shoulder pain, which was excrutiating, and it ended up in my other shoulder for a couple of weeks, also. Afterwards I developed swelling in my feet, then knee, which led to my diagnosis. Before my knee swelled, though, I remember my knee feeling like my shoulder had -- sharp pain that only subsided in a hot bath. I'm on methotrexate now, which seems to be helping. Nothing like that shoulder pain since then, thank god. Good luck with nursing school, ! We need good researchers working on RA! > Hi... it's been awhile since I've posted (one month into nursing > school) but I wanted to put in my two cents about the shoulder > pain. Guest guest
My pain initially started in my feet then went to my shoulders, alternating until it " synchronized " into both. By that time the pain was so bad I went to the ER and that is when I was first DX'd with possible RA (RA Factor 113). Five days later my VA doc took more blood and the RA factor was 118 then 2 1/2 weeks later it was 164 and I had been to the ER again. The pain was so bad and the mobility was gone. I couldn't raise my arms and had to have help dressing. Jay > Hi... it's been awhile since I've posted (one month into nursing > school) but I wanted to put in my two cents about the shoulder > pain. Guest guest
Hi, very similar experience as well. I had been helping family member preparing to move to new home and that evening and thru the night that horrible pain struck. Went to local 'med quick' since I was out of town and Dr. said it was bi-cep tendinitus - due to all the lifting etc. prescribed orudus and Tylenol #3 - that helped, but in a matter of days it had gone to other shoulder and down to wrists/fingers etc. Also discovered (through a friend who is massage therapist) the hot baths w/epsom salts does wanders!! Happen to do a follow up (as required by insurance) and was telling dr of some other symptoms, ie rash, stiffness in morning, bottoms of feet sore etc and he first was worried about lymes, but ran a RA factor test and sed rate. the RA came back high so he sent me on to a Rheumy. By the time i seen the specialist it was quite obvious there was something going on. fingers swollen, wrist and knees make that horrible 'crinkle' sound he prescribed methotrexate, folic acid. Have had 4 rounds of that and seem to be noticing improvement in hands/wrist and some in shoulders, even though they continue to be sore. He wants to wait 4 more weeks to see if there is improvement in knees and feet and sees the most recent bloodwork before he adjust dosage. My friend the massage therapist made a mixture of epsom salts, few drops oil of oregano and oil of thyme and another oil called 'panfree' that i add to the bath water and it does wanders for that pain. Actually makes the pain worse for a moment and feels like fire from the inside out - but once out of the tub -total relief. (warning - you will think you're at an italian diner - it is a verry strong odor) Hope everyone has a pain free week as well Diane
Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your experiences. I find the hot baths the best relief, and while in the bath, I alternate soaking my shoulder in the hot water, and then rubbing ice on it, then soaking again, and rubbing ice...etc. I find I have a greater range of movement when I get out of the bath. Guest guest
I've been having a few problems with a popping shoulder lately. . . Went in to see the chiropractor . .. . He explained that, unlike the hip which has a big ball-and-socket, the shoulder has only a small area and that it's easy to have your shoulder go " out " . . He recommended some strengthening exercises so an adjustment would last . . . I was amazed at how weak I had become in some movements. The muscles I use regularly are fine . . . but some of the others were really weak. I'll have to say my shoulder is doing much better with some simple exercises! . . . It's still popping a bit. But, hopefully the next time I go, it will stay in place. However, this may not be the problem. . . I had a lot of shoulder/arm pain while implanted! I couldn't get to the bottom of it at that time. Guest guest
Yes, I have torn a rotator cuff. I did mine in a yoga pose. I simply moved my arm with my weight on it and it tore. I felt no pain until that evening. Where do you feel your pain? Rather than surgery, I opted for prolo therapy. I had prolo on my back with great success. I wouldn't recommend it for a shoulder though. Kenda > Has anyone had shoulder pain for seemingly no reason? A few months ago my > shoulder > started hurting and it hasn't stopped. Guest guest
I've had shoulder pain for the last few months (since before explant), and my neck has been a problem as well. I've been going to physical therapy and they are teaching me strengthening exercises. I'm sure this is connected to the implant problems as well, but I'm trying to do anything I can to help the situation. Sis > > I've been having a few problems with a popping > shoulder lately. . .
