Yes, unfortunately, this is a part of the insidious disease called OCD.

When my son was 6 years old, he came home from school one day, very upset

because a " voice " was telling him to kill me. It escalated very rapidly

through the next few days......at times it told him to but his penis off, to

look at his sister's privates, to burn my privates with a match....etc. You

get the picture. My son cried for days and became depressed. The main thing

here is that these thoughts cause an unimaginable amount of anxiety, because

they are not your child's true thoughts. They are UNWANTED. At this point,

a child does not know enough to discriminate.

My daughter on the other hand must have thoughts about me leaving her

because she will tell me at least 75 times per day " I love you Mom " . She's

7 years old.

My mother actually said " That's so sweet. She [daughter] has a good one. "

What people don't realize is that these compulsions are fueled by extreme

anxiety. It doesn't matter what the compulsion is, the anxiety is HUGE.

Your son is having anxiety because he can not control these thoughts. Let

us know how it all turns out. Good luck.

My son who is 7, also has the bad thoughts type. And has told me " Mom, I was

thinking of sticking you with that knife, but I won't, but I will, but I

won't..... " Then he mutters on for a minute or so. If its a silly bad thought,

he just finishes with " but I would never do that " . But, the really bad ones, he

mutters " I will I won't I will... " Most of his thoughts seem to be about him

wanting another person as one of his parents. He has this patterned mutter, that

only I recognize, " I was thinking that I want her to be my mother, but I don't

mean that. " He says it really fast and then sometimes hits himself in the head.

A few times he has scratched himself. That upsets me the most, because I worry

about the cutting issue later on.

He has gotten better or he just doesn't vocalize them as often. He does seem to

have to come to tell me most of them. And seems better after he tells me about

them. I tell you though, when he does tell me he's thinking about shooting me or

stabbing me, it feels like he has done it. I usually say " okay, those are ocd

thoughts, they aren't yours boss it back... etc " then I have to quickly get to

the bathroom before he sees my real reaction. I've gotten better too, I don't

feel as bad when he says it.
