Guest guest
If you go to Google http://www.google.com/ and type in " sas shoes " (don't forget the quote marks) you will find lots of information about SAS shoes. Nordstroms, carries them, and many other stores do too. Like New Balance and most other brand names, they aren't cheap, but you can buy them online for less money if you think you know your correct size. If you are looking for something with Google.com that needs more than one word, always remember to enclose it all with quote marks. If you don't, the search will look up each word separately and you will have more hits than you want and many won't be what you're looking for. Guest guest
Where are SAS shoes available? I've not been able to find a local store or internet store. Thanks, Einstein
Guest guest
Elaine, They are a shoe maker from Texas, and they have stores all over. I was very impressed with the time they took to find shoes that fit my feet. Their phone number to find the nearest store is (210) 921-7415. I found out about them by accident one day, I just walked into the store and asked about them (after I saw several happy people walking out with bags). I like the materials they use, they are very light. The shoes I bought feel more like moccasins while giving support and padding that I need. My toes usually rub the insides of most shoes and get blisters and calluses, but they feel pampered in these. All this said, if you have orthotics you should be able to wear pretty much whatever shoe you want. When I was younger I cared more about the brand name, even if they weren't comfortable- at least they were " cool " . Bottom line is: take care of your feet-as far as I know you only get one pair. As for surgery, I looked into it before. I was scared off by the brochure they gave me. Looked more like torture, and they couldn't promise that it would work. I decided that it wasn't worth the risk, at least not yet. YMMV. I'm holding out for bionics (ala 6 million dollar man) haha. Seriously, the research from MDA and others sounds promising and I support their efforts. -
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks so much for the info. This is great talking to so many nice people about our disorder. My 23 year old daughter is more inflicted with this than me. Although I have left drop foot and a very weird walking gait. But the phone number for the SAS shoes is really helpful.. thanks again. Guest guest
I started wearing SAS shoes when I lived in Texas in the 1980s and have worn them for all the 20 years I've had RA. The shoes are wonderful, and as far as I know are available around the country. (SAS stands for San Shoes because they originated in San , TX.) I haven't tried Birks, because I didn't realize that they made anything but the clodhopper-looking shoes, but I'll look for them after your recommendation. As to stress and arthritis, I totally agree it has a major effect on how we feel. When I sit and do needlepoint and watch BBC America, I'm totally unstressed and nothing hurts or at least I don't notice the pain which is just as good as not hurting. For years, I had to give up needlepointing because of the pain in my hands, but I was able to start back a year or so ago (thanks to Remicade) and I'm grateful for that. For those of you dealing with the problems of teenage children plus the RA, I've been there and I know how difficult it is. My heart goes out to you. Hang in there, it does get better, both the RA and the kids!! Jan (who is looking out the window at a beautiful fall morning in south Miss.) Guest guest
I used to wear SAS but my feet rolled to the outside and soon they were worn over so I switched to New Balance with the roll bar and do much better, The more expensive rollbar shoe had a collar that came up to far but otherwise it felt great. I went back to the less expensive one with the rollbar. This is my second pair. I have very skinny feet and use orthotics and even then I need thick socks.
