I think there are two types of addiction - physical addiction where the body needs the substance to feel good and psychological addiction where the mind wants the substance to feel good. I feel that I am psychologically addicted to coffee but if I don't get it I miss it but don't have a physical withdrawal effect. If it were a physical addiction I would get withdrawal. I think all pain medications are addictive in the psychological sense and the hard hitters (opiates) can also be physically addictive. In small doses for a limited time there is little danger of physical addiction but the higher the dose and longer time of use increases the chance of physical addiction. I think Ultram is an opiate with some slight danger of addiction so I suggest you talk to your doctor about it. Good luck and God bless.

Does anyone know if Ultram/Tramadol (generic) are addictive? Are there any pain medications that are not addictive?
