Guest guest
Hello all, I was wondering if any of you knew of any books for kids on the spectrum which help them understand what their diagnosis is, and that it's okay to be on the spectrum? We're getting a formal diagnosis done soon and our child meets 11 of the diagnostic criteria for autism (you need to meet 6 for a diagnosis), so I'm fairly certain we'll obtain an HFA diagnosis. Anyhow, we will explain it to him if/when we get the diagnosis, but I'd like to also have reference material here that he can access, read and *understand* whenever he wants/needs to. Any suggestions? -- MargisonDon't Breed, Don't Buy, Adopt!www.avianwelfare.org

Guest guest
We have a book that we bought called, being a friend to someone with autism - we gave it to Hope's class at the beginning of the year, but Hope really liked it too.Avian Rights <avianrights@...> wrote: Hello all, I was wondering if any of you knew of any books for kids on the spectrum which help them understand what their diagnosis is, and that it's okay to be on the spectrum? Guest guest
One book I read that is for children and is easy to read and understand was " Can I tell you About Aspergers for Friends and Family " I read this book in about 30 minutes. My copy is on loan to my son's school right now. Everyone who works with my son I ask them to read this book. It gives children a understanding of why a child may be different and how they can help that child. I read it to my son who is now 10 about 1.5 year ago he replied he don't believe it. I have another one that I loan to teachers to teach them about children like mine and the areas they may need help. I bought both on Amazon. I think I paid about $10.00 for the " Can I tell " book.
