I have no idea about the asthma. Just wanted to say my 5 yo dd is the same, has

a worry for awhile, then is on to a new one. Some of the things, like your dds,

I know are so off the wall and could never happen, but she doesnt know that. It

is hard. My dd has been in therapy for several months and has done very well.

IS there a link between Pulmicort , an asthma drug,

and OCD

Hi, I'm new to this site. I am feeling really upset over my nine

year old daughter. She seems to be having Religious obsessions and

I

have been told by the pediatrician, that this will pass and that I

should not let anyone give her medication. She is worrried that

because she helped a classmate decorate a poster, by adding fire to

the mouth of some creature the classmate drew that she is a bad

person.

She knows that she is a good person, who didn't even want toadd

to the poster , in the first place. Now she feels she must keep

telling God that she loves him in order to prevent any thoughts

about

devils from coming to her mind. Each week , a new worry pops up.

Last

week she saw A marijuana plant in her health book and was fearful

she might become tempted when she's in her teens and cried because

she doesn't want to be temped. Then, she was worried that she might

accidentally touch a real Marijuana leaf one day and become

addicted. I had to convince her that we don't live near these

plants. She feels a lot of distress during these periods of worry.

They seem to crop up just before an asthma event, for which she

takes

albuterol and pulimicort. When she was on Advair she was ten times

worse. We do have long stretches where there are no symptoms.

Could ther be a link between asthma onset, or use of inhaled

steroids? Also any referrals to the Chicago/suburban area would

greatly be appreciated. Thanks Jofnaper

anyone suggest a specialist in the Chicago or Suburban area who

doesn't just prescribe drugs. Thanks judy

Hi Judy, my 17 yr old son is suffering from religious obsessions

(bad thoughts, scrupulosity...). This began about the first of this

year.

His OCD began back around age 11.5 but with compulsions,

rituals...so it's different now.

won't really talk about his " thoughts " so it's good that you

are hearing from your daughter. I can have read something

about this type OCD and ask him if some of it fits him (types of

thoughts, etc.) and he'll tell me " yes " but I don't get any

specifics. It really is hard to watch, and he does get depressed.

He was on medication for OCD (Celexa) for a couple of years, isn't

on any now and wants to try handling this without meds. But I let

him know that he can go back on whenever he wants to. We don't have

anyone (therapist) experienced in our " small area " that he can see

so whenever things have come up we have just gone by all the things

we've read over the years, the suggestions from this great group and

others and used the medication available (while he would), etc. You

should hopefully have a lot more luck finding someone in Chicago!!

I envy you those long stretches with no symptoms, LOL! I wouldn't

put it past some medication or even an illness (allergies or

fevers...) to make OCD wax a bit.

Let your daughter know she's certainly not alone with this type of

OCD!

My son took albuterol in a nebulizer after a bout of pneumonia and with other

breathing issues. It has been years since he used it though.

Hmm,

Interesting , my daughter had her first bout of ocd after being

hospitalized with pneumonia three years ago, and at that timehad no

nebulizers other than her pulmicort. judy
