WHAT????????!!!!!!!!!!! This sounds CRAZY to me. I have NEVER seen or gotten any vaccine EVER without the alcohol swabbing first. Last Fall the nurse that did my vaccinations only did a pathetic vertical swipe (not a nice scrubbing) and I too, got cellulitis from it. I would assume 's " reaction " is cellulitis. The arm is not supposed to balloon up with a flu shot. Mark the borders and call if it spreads beyond at all or is red or hot. (mom to , age 7, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently has polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other defs... and also to Kate, age 3!, more dairy intolerant but very healthy!) Guest guest
, I have never heard of such a issue with the flu vaccine and alcohol wipes....I would wonder if they didn't wipe my arm or my kids..... when you find out let us all know> Thanks Dawn cvid mother to cvid, asthma, acid reflux, develop. delay anmd waiting for diagnosis for my 10 year old Falconer <buttrfly@...> wrote: Hi all, I went ahead and took the family in for our flu vaccnes today. I would love to access some paper noting that alcohol wipes are not contraindicated with this vaccine and present it to this practice and in particular to this nurse. s arm became infected at the injection site last year (cellulitis) and I am cetain that could have been avoided. They are both out of sorts thisevening and showing signs of reaction to the vaccination, s' arm is ballooning up and I am trying not to worry its more than a typical reaction at the injection site. Guest guest
Just my opinion: SHE IS NUTZ! We have use alcohol prep pads on every injection site---- even the flu. I think I would have a heart attack if they did this with my boys! YIKES-they have problems with cellulitis. If I find anything, I will pass it along. I would think it was standard protocol for any injection. Guest guest
I looked in my Nursing 2005 Drug Handbook and under Flu Vaccine (actually listed as Influenza virus vaccine) I looked under adverse reactions, interactions-drug-drug, etc and Contraindications and cautions and no where does it mention that alcohol prep pads are contraindicated to be used when administering the flu vaccine. It isn't even mentioned under Nursing Considerations or Patient teaching... If it interfered with the injection product, they would certainly have it listed under the interactions. Guest guest
Me and my kids have had many shots over the years (including the flu shot) and NEVER has a nurse not swabbed first. You may want to ask your doctor about it so he aware that this is what the nurse is doing. --Sange, Holly 5.5yo; Randy 4.5yo mild-mod SNHL, asthma, globally delayed, possible SVID; Peyton 19mos asthma, always ill & possible SVID > > Hi all, > I went ahead and took the family in for our flu vaccnes today. Guest guest
, How are the vaccinations sites? I'm wondering if your kids could be allergic to eggs? That would produce a bad site reaction as well. Hope they are doing better today. In His service, dale
