WHAT????????!!!!!!!!!!! This sounds CRAZY to me. I have NEVER seen or gotten

any vaccine EVER without the alcohol swabbing first. Last Fall the nurse that

did my vaccinations only did a pathetic vertical swipe (not a nice scrubbing)

and I too, got cellulitis from it.

I would assume 's " reaction " is cellulitis. The arm is not supposed to

balloon up with a flu shot. Mark the borders and call if it spreads beyond at

all or is red or hot.

(mom to , age 7, dairy intolerant-related GERD -- currently has

polysaccharide antibody def, previously had transient IgG, IgA, t-cell & other

defs... and also to Kate, age 3!, more dairy intolerant but very healthy!)

Now, am I completely wrong here in thinking this woman is nuts and has no idea

what she is talking about? Is it more likely due to their wanting to cut costs

and not using wipes to save a few dollars?

I would love to access some paper noting that alcohol wipes are not

contraindicated with this vaccine and present it to this practice and in

particular to this nurse.

s arm became infected at the injection site last year (cellulitis) and I am

cetain that could have been avoided.

They are both out of sorts thisevening and showing signs of reaction to the

vaccination, s' arm is ballooning up and I am trying not to worry its

more than a typical reaction at the injection site.

I have never seen or participated in any shot that was not prepped with

alcohol beforehand. I have been taught to give injections and I would never,

ever consider this.

Just my opinion: SHE IS NUTZ!

We have use alcohol prep pads on every injection site---- even the flu. I

think I would have a heart attack if they did this with my boys! YIKES-they

have problems with cellulitis. If I find anything, I will pass it along.

I would think it was standard protocol for any injection. BUT I'm not a

nurse or a doctor--

Subject: vaccines done, what the??????

Hi all,

I went ahead and took the family in for our flu vaccnes today. I talked

I looked in my Nursing 2005 Drug Handbook and under Flu Vaccine (actually

listed as Influenza virus vaccine) I looked under adverse reactions,

interactions-drug-drug, etc and Contraindications and cautions and no where

does it mention that alcohol prep pads are contraindicated to be used when

administering the flu vaccine. It isn't even mentioned under Nursing

Considerations or Patient teaching... If it interfered with the injection

product, they would certainly have it listed under the interactions.

Tell the woman she is out of her gourd.

Me and my kids have had many shots over the years (including the flu

shot) and NEVER has a nurse not swabbed first. You may want to ask

your doctor about it so he aware that this is what the nurse is doing.

The first thing out of my mouth??

" Do you think I was born yesterday or just fell off the Turnip

truck?? take your pick!! "

Blake loves to hear me use this phrase. The reason I use it is

because I WAS not born yesterday & I did NOT fall off a turnip

truck!!!

Every time I use it he would ask me if I was born in SC or did I

really ever ride on a turnip truck * fall off it....# 1: nope born

in NJ, just grew up southern. # 2 Yes, I have rode in many " turnip

trucks " I grew up in a children's home in SC & we grew our own

veggies & no I never fell off!!!

Any time you are to be stuck with any foreign object your skin is to

be swabbed with alcohol. even Tattoo parlors use this a general

cleanser(I have never in my life been-in one but have many friends &

family members who know this as a rule...)

Then, I would have told that nurse to find the Truck driver that

dropped her off & tell tell him to go get his driver license checked

to make sure he is really licensed to drive the truck....in other

words I would have asked where she got her Nursing degree, license,

& then show me that she is even validated to practice.

I would also file a complaint against her & the office because she

was in a Dr's office when she told you this & if the Dr's office

uses this practice, it is reason to have the nurses/office license

revoked!!!

Not even a Dr. will tell you to NOT use alcohol wipes!!!!

I am sorry that you even had to mess with this person who called her

self " Nurse " !!!

What school did this nutty nurse graduate from? Gotta agree with

the others -- we ALWAYS have been wiped down with alcohol wipes

prior to flu shots!

,

How are the vaccinations sites? I'm wondering if your kids could be

allergic to eggs? That would produce a bad site reaction as well. Hope

they are doing better today.

In His service,
