Guest guest
Tami: I don't know about apraxia, but I can tell you about SI issues. is 4.9 has global developmental delays (receptive & expressive speech delays), weak hand muscles, she gets OT for, and sensory integration dysfunction. For SID, that needs to be diagnosed by a qualified Occupational Therapist(OT). In general, SID is caused by an immature nervous system that causes them to seek out sensory input that helps them. twirls, jumps, swings because she needs joint compression (proprioceptive) and movement (vestibular) input. There's a foundation in CA called the Ayres Institute. It's named after the OT who discovered the syndrome. Their email is www.sensoryint@.... They have books, tapes & pamphlets that you can order to learn more about this. Brushing therapy is used to help kids with SID. You use a special plastic brush on their skin, then you manipulate their joints. The process takes about 5 minutes, and you do it multiple times a day. Texture issues can be a part of SID. Hope this helps, welcome to the group!
