Guest guest
I just thought I'd add this for parents of teenage girls with OCD. I don't know if it could happen to everyone with OCD but it sure did affect my daughter immensely. My daughter is newly diagnosed OCD, not on any meds yet, just counselling. She slipped into a horrible depression this summer and at the beginning of September she started telling me she wanted to be pulled from school and wanted to try homeschooling. She also stated that although she was not suicidal she did not want to live like this any longer, a horrible thing to hear from you child. My daughter was prescribed " Diane 35 " (not even sure if this drug is available in the US, Yasmin is another birth control pill used for the same thing) 18 months ago for hormonal treatment of stubborn acne. At the beginning of September she forgot to take the whole first week of the pills, she was just so busy with back to school it slipped her mind. I told her to forget about this month and to start again in October. Well about a week and a half ago, almost 4 weeks after her last diane 35 dose we saw a dramatic lift in her mood. She's smiling, laughing, happy and able to concentrate better. Her OCD is still there full force but the mood swings, rages and crying spells have ceased. She is also upbeat and functioning so much better. She also had been suffering from migraine headaches for the past year almost on a daily basis. Her doctor thought it was due to her asthma and her untreated OCD and not the b/c pills. The headaches have ceased in the last week too. I know it is really early to tell if this is going to be a turning point for the depression but I know one thing for sure.... she is not going back on those pills! She has not had any major return of the acne this month and wants to try topical treatments again. Further research on the this pill uncovered a lot of information on the possibilty of depression, mood swings and anxiety. I don't think it will bring an end to OCD because it is always there but I think it may help her cope better with it. Kim
Guest guest
Hi Kim, thanks for sharing this experience. YEARS ago when I was on birth control pills, which had been doing fine with no side effects, the doctor switched me to another one. Took me 2 or 3+ months to figure out that they were severely affecting my mood, I was just..angry, felt like punching someone out daily (never did, LOL, but felt like it). Anyway, when I realized it began after the new BC pills, I stopped them and was better that week, seemed like a miracle with the change. You just never know with anything you take, even foods/ingredients I guess! Glad your daughter is feeling better!!! > > I just thought I'd add this for parents of teenage girls with OCD.
