Guest guest
rebecca, Hi mimi! I am mimi too! My son is now 6 1/2 and he has gone through phases of calling me many different variations of mom and currently " meems " is his favorite. He has known all along what the word is but along with the " practising " or experimenting or whatever it is with other words he uses these nicknames affectionately. I do think the repetitions talked about by someone recently and changing the endings of words, etc. is all part of apraxia. His speech therapist has been working on the " th " sound for quite a while and I have noticed in the last few days that ALL of the " th " sounds in his sentences have this big emphasis: " THis is THE boat THat sank " .........it is almost as if he has suddenly " noticed " the sound in words and is emphasizing it by practising it extra heavily and driving me slightly batty in the meantime! But I don't comment to him about it because like most of the odd speech and body movements he has done I have learned that they come in PHASES and come and go on their own....I don't think we should try to eliminate them because then attention is drawn to them and they become the focus instead of general progress and improvement. All for now..just had to send in my two cents worth. Carol
