I have the best suggestion for anyone who wonders about the taste or

effectiveness of one EFA (fish oil) product over another for their

child. Try it yourself. That's what we did with Tanner. Tanner was

switched around so much because back then I didn't know there was any

difference between stinky fish oil formulas. I didn't know from DHA

and GLA that one was Omega 3 and one was Omega 6.

All we did know is that Efalex was the only one that worked. Efalex

was the first formula we used for Tanner -and we used it for quite a

while. The first time you hear Tanner on the Talking Page

http://www.debtsmart.com/talk was after 9 months of Efalex. 9

months! I talked many times to the owner of Nordic Naturals about

that because I loved the DHA Jr. cute little strawberry flavored cod

liver oil capsules. I loved that they tried to make something so

nasty -fish oil -more child friendly. But most fish oils outside of

Efalex didn't work. Tanner would not progress -or worse he would

regress when switched or taken off the Efalex. I kept saying " there

must be something in the Efalex that is not in the DHA Jr. or other

fish oils I tried " It was about a year later I learned what the

difference was - the mixture of Omega 3 and Omega 6 which is what

Efalex was. The owner of NN who I had been talking to about this

told me that ProEFA was their version of Efalex. My husband Glenn

and I were afraid to again switch Tanner to another EFA product after

all the other attempts. But are we ever glad we did! ProEFA works

better for Tanner - no question, and at a much lesser dosage.

We saw significant results on a much less dose than Efalex when we

switched Tanner to ProEFA (and you will be able to hear him on TV

tomorrow. I could just hear the Talk Show host thinking " why are we

doing this show this child talks fine " and sure enough she asked a

similar question to what I thought she was thinking. I told her it

was after much hard work of years of therapy and EFA that brought him

to where he was) Efalex -as it was stated here by another parent- is

not stronger than ProEFA -however like EyeQ - because of research the

companies are allowed to advise you to take more capsules a day -which in

turn would make them stronger. (just check the doses yourself online

or on shelf) Since research is not yet done on ProEFA they can only

state one or two capsules a day.

As far as which one works -and works better for most speech impaired

children with apraxia? Anecdotally it's the ProEFA first and Efalex

second. That does not mean that a few children will have no results

on EFAs or that some will do better on other formula. Each child is

an individual. Again -try them yourself.

As far as taste? Ha ha that's a real easy one! I can't help but

laugh while writing this. Please just try it yourself. They are

both nasty as far as I'm concerned -but hands down winner of most

disgusting fish oil between Efalex and ProEFA is the Efalex. After I

tried Efalex -it took me three days to get that nasty taste out of my

mouth and believe me I tried eating everything after I tried it to

cover up the taste. It took me awhile to try the ProEFA because of

that. ProEFA does not have that strong fish smell or taste. Tanner

hid from Efalex and likes the ProEFA - I still can't believe that

either. Here is an archived post on how to give nasty fish oil to

your child if they don't like it.
