Why does have to wait until spring to start? She qualifies for a FAPE and should start school now and have her IEP in 30 days, they need to be using this time now to evaluate her, to see what levels she is at and what therapies she will require. Guest guest
Suzi- I have identical twin boys, 4yrs. 3months. They were in special ed. for two years now, together. Since they miss the cut of date of Oct. 1st (they were born Oct. 11th) they have to go one more year in pre-school. Next year they will be going to mainstream pre-school but SEPERATED. I am really nervous because they both have verbal apraxia and they feel very comfortable with their brother around, I wonder what it will do to them seperated. I figured, either, really hurt their self-esteem and not thrive because they miss their brother or go with the classroom and thrive??? What happed to you with seperating them??? U can email me privately at Joya111@.... THANKS
Guest guest
Congratulations, it is always good to hear some good news, especially about school. I often feel like I am trying to get through a brick wall. What state do you live in? Carolyn
Guest guest
We have her in a regular preschool. She was in the special ed preschool through the school district, and she hated it (and so did we). She's already had an IEP in October, and she'll have another one in the spring to place her in the correct kindegarten. We're waiting on an OT eval now. Guest guest
Last year the girls were separated for preschool and it worked. Their classes were right next to each other, and they shared recess, music, and free time together. All of the preschool classes are open into one common area, and during the free time the kids get to play in the open area. This arrangement worked great!!!!! is very smart and only has mild apraxia. She was ready for a junior kindegarten program, so we signed her up for junior K, and we signed up for a less academic pre-kindegarten program. I knew going into it that they would be in separate buildings, but I didn't know that they don't do anything together. They don't even have recess together. It's been a real problem for , but has had a great year. I think 's class is not as good as 's. I don't think 's teach is as good as 's. Also, there are 10 boys and only 2 girls in 's class. has a great teacher and 6 girls and 6 boys. Why can't they be in the same classroom? I know my husband, and I screwed up and picked the wrong set-up for our girls. We've been trying since February to switch the girls around, but the school doesn't have any way for us to switch. Good luck! Suzi > Suzi- > > I have identical twin boys, 4yrs. 3months. They were in special ed. for two > years now, together. Guest guest
Suzi- Thanks for your imput. I insisted that they go to mainstream pre-k together just on Fridays, so next year when they go to Pre-k AGAIN, they are going to be seperated but will be used to the teacher and classroom and they won't " freak out " not being together because they are comfortable with the teacher and class. I hope this coming Sept. will be an easy transition, my husband and I are counting on this. THANK YOU, Joya
