Guest guest
Hi Joe, we face the same weather obsession here with our son, age 11. Fortunately, we live in the desert, so we don't get rain too often. As with all obsessions/repeated questions - we try not to answer. Good luck with this. > > HELLO WE ARE NEW TO THIS SITE. Guest guest
My son was once and suddenly terrified of the rain. I couldn't imagine how we would get to school (or anywhere else) in the rain and so I was determined to try to help him see that it would be okay. We dressed in old clothes (no umbrella or hood) and I carried him (part dragged him) out into the rain. He was 6 at the time. He burried his head into my shoulder and cried begging me to go back in the house. I rocked him in my arms for a bit. Then I said, let's go see what the scarecrows are doing. He got down and walked holding my hand to the front yard. Then I said, do you see how quiet it is except for the rain? Isn't it nice out here? In a few minutes we started playing in a little stream that had formed and we were splashing in puddles. We were drenched when it was over and I am sure the neighbors thought I was crazy, but it really helped. He still gets a little nervous in bad weather sometimes, but not like before. He will walk out into the rain without protest when I remind him of that day. That was easier than other things we face and I think that it's because I noticed it early and confronted it. The things that are more severe and longer in duration are harder I imagine. I just wanted to share this with you and tell you that while somethings are harder to deal with than others, you can make some progress somewhere else and that may give you hope during the very tough times. I wish you the best. Bonnie
