Guest guest
Hi , Do you think he is apraxic b/c he isn't really talking yet or because he has seemed to have lost some sounds that he had? I am just another Mom so I really cannot tell you one way or another. However it is great that you are looking into it. Apraxia carries so many different characteristics and some kids have 1 and others may have all! My son for example now that he is verbalizing once he says a word, he doesn't forget it. This apparently is inconsistent with verbal apraxia. However when he starts stringing words together, a whole other story!!! He also has oral apraxia, couldn't blow or move his tongue around. This seem to be subsiding. I have read that verbal apraxia is hard to diagnose before 2 but oral apraxia can be done as early as 18 months. You are saying he blows and can lick. Can he stick his tongue out or move it around his mouth from left to right, touch his upper lip? My suggestion would be to contact Early Intervention and have them evaluate him as well. They do a whole series of tests, speech, fine motor, gross motor, cognitive and social. May be others but I cannot recall. It may take awhile to get the ball rolling so I personally don't think he is too young to at least get some opinions. Perhaps you want to take the results to a developmental pediatrician or your regular pediatrician. ALso check out the bookmarks section and there is a post re: oral motor therapy from an old post. Good luck. denise --- In @y..., " lauracorin2001 " <lauracorin@i...> wrote: > I've read the descriptions on the Cherab website of Apraxia but I > can't get them to match with my younger child. My doctor is concerned that we keep on this (we all missed the signs of older DS' SID, so he doesn't want to be caught again!) > > ALso check out the bookmarks section and there is a post re: oral > motor therapy from an old post. Guest guest
If your older child has SID, does that child have an occupational therapist? The OT may be able to diagnose a problem also. Good luck!
