I've read the descriptions on the Cherab website of Apraxia but I

can't get them to match with my younger child. Mouse is 19 months

and has three words: mum (for yum) wow and daddya (for Daddy). He

has had these for several months and nothing more has developed. He

used to say mmmmm (for Moo) but has stopped doing that. He only says

daddya when he has heard it recently. He sometimes comes up with

other animal sounds but they are different every time. Mostly he

just says 'dahe' (all day, every minute!). He does sometimes babble

other sounds (da, ba, ya, ha, ma) but seems to babble less than when

he was younger - the 'dahe' sound seems to have taken over all the

other sounds.

We saw a speech therapist on Friday (who came highly recommended).

She has told me to work on sounds with him (choo choo, vroom vroom,

siren noises, animal noises) and to repeat back to him the sounds he

makes, to encourage him. She will see him again in two months and

decide where to go from there. He has no problems with chewing,

licking or blowing and he does not drool excessively. His hearing is

fine and he understands what we say. He has one expressive sign but

otherwise just points and cries. Oh, his older brother has SID but

it affects his gross and fine motor skills, not speech.

I'd appreciate any advice you may have as to what's going on and what

I should be doing.
