I understand, there are MANY life changes. Personally, I'm on an antidepressant called Celexa. It doesn't have any side effects and just helps me to feel more even. Other than that, I just plan my activities, and don't do what I don't have to do when I don't feel up to it. I do find that I feel better when I get a bit of gentle exercise, even if only walking. It is sometimes helpful just feeling the support of others.....Good luck to you! Sandy

On day on public TV here this week, they were showing a program by the author of when your body gets the blues. She said they found in their research that activity, sunlight, and vitamins made a big difference in serotonin and other chemicals advantageous to better mood. Since I have been on anti depressants for a no. of years now, I thought I would try her vitamin combo. She said take 50 mgs each of B1, B2, and B6. Take 400 IU of vitamin D and take 400mcg of Folic Acid and 200 mcg of Selenium. I am taking Folic acid 1 mg with the methaltrexate, so I added the rest daily. It has made an immediate difference. I also tried to brigten up my office with more sunlight. I think I will read her book. I am just in the first month of methaltrexate and it hasn't changed a thing. Celebrex, Viox, and now Mobic have not either. I slept terrific the other night after taking 100 mg of Tramadol, but I develop an itching reaction to anything codine derivative. The itching has already started.

It might be possible at some time in the future with proper medications to do what you used to be able to do before very easily. However, until then you need to accept that you have a disease that is limiting what you can do. Many people become depressed and/or anxious about the disease and find help through medicines to counteract these feelings. Please talk to your doctor about this. You should be seeing a rheumatologist and if you are not you need to start seeing one. You also need to learn patience because most RA medicines take weeks to months to become effective. A couple of web sites that I think are helpful to get you started are from Arthritis Insight, one on general aspects of RA and one on common RA medicines. http://www.arthritisinsight.com/medical/disease/ra/ra.html http://www.arthritisinsight.com/medical/meds/ In fact, there are a lot of web sites with information about RA. Good luck and God bless.

I am 33 and have had RA since I was 29. I still have problems with the

limitations the RA gives me. It is a very hard thing to get used to

especially with people who think it is all in your head because you arent

walking around with a broken arm or something they can see. It has also

changed me into a different person that i am just starting to like. I

think there are phases you go through to accept and understand what your

body can and cannot do. It is not fun and very depressing at times. I

tried to go for a bike ride the other day with my kids and did fine until

it was time to get off and my legs gave out and i fell flat on the road.

I have been sad about it since. Have you been diagnosed? for how long?

what are you on? do you have kids? a husband? family at all that

understands?
