Hi Group,

Yesterday was very interesting, Jack's Early intervention told me

after his session (This is her 3rd time seeing him) that she does not

think he has apraxia at all and if he did it is totally resolved. I

asked her why she thought that and she said that because when she

asks him to repeat a word he does even, though it is not correct. I

told her that now I am confused because I have taken him to 2

Hospital SLP Boston and they both said he had Oral Apraxia.

She said he is saying 3-4 word sentences and so it can't be she said

he is just delayed.

Jack is doing so great and I contribute all of that to his Prompt

private SLP and efa's which by the way I took Jack off of for 2 weeks

about 1 months ago and he has been on them for about 2 weeks and his

speech exploded again.

While I think that it is awesome news that she said that because it

means that he is truly doing so well, but it is also a little scary

since I do believe he does have it although of course I wish she was

correct and that she treats children who may have it and she really

does not know alot about Apraxia.

When I asked her what she thought Apraxia was her response

was " Apraxia is when you ask a child to say a word they cannot. "

While she is right my question would be " Well don't children get

better with apraxia, or are you telling parents that no your child

does not have apraxia because he can repeat a word even if it is not

intellegible.

it took me 10 months to get a diagnosis for JAck because I knew that

he wasn't just delayed which is what EI told me all along, and as

soon as I found out what he had and started Efa's and getting him a

prompt therapist he has made huge strides.

PLEASE someone enlighten me with all this. what should I do now

because since she has said this I am now second guessing myself as

too what I have put him through all this time with DR.s and SLP's and

evaluations.

Sorry if I have rambled,

Sincerely,

Eileen mom to Jack oral Apraxia, SI and mild PDD.

I am truly confused but right now am so happy that he is doing so

well.
