Be very careful with long term Arimidex use since it has been shown to decrease bone density. Estrogen is a hormone that even men need to keep strong bones, healthy skin and hair, and even sexual function. Of course, we should have normal and not excessive levels. Some men have a genetic predisposition to convert testosterone to higher estrogen due to more production of the enzyme aromataze in their bodies. I know guys who cannot even use a 1 percent testosterone gel like androgel or testim without running into this problem. In severe cases, you need surgery to remove the breast tissue.

Exactly. The arimidex (there are others also, clomiphene, tamoxifen) lowers estrogen levels. Along with gyno there are also other physical and psychological hazards to a man flying around with too much estrogen in his system. I find it irresponsible to the point of negligence for your doc to ignore it.Unfortunately, some doctors seem to think that we're f***** lucky just to be alive and shouldn't conplain about those pesky little things that disfigure us and strip us of the dignity of a fully functioning body.If your Prolactin turns out to be elevated ..( normal range is 2.0 - 18.0 ) there are drugs like cabergoline that can lower it effectively, but you will also need to get to the bottom of the reason that it is elevated in the first place. These are my old Prolactin lab results ( not a problem).Prolactin: 8.3 (2.0 - 18.0) 7.9 (2.0 – 18.0)--------------------------------------Phil >> While taking testosterone replacement, do you take arimidex to prevent gyno and/or high estrogen? Below are the labs that you should get your doctor to run for you. (these are my actual lab results)

An Id Doc can definitely order these ; you don't need an endocrinologist, although an endo *may* or may not have a better handle on interpreting the results. The one that I saw when I was trying to sort all these out was useless. He evaluated the lab results but paid no attention to the distress that the patient (me) was in.

Instead of treating the hormone deficiency, he suggested that I might just be depressed.

( I once had another genius doctor suggest depression when I actually had Hep A. Just last month, I had a doctor prescribe an muscle relaxant for my back pain without checking ANY of the interactions with my other medications. Had I had taken the prescribed medicine it could have killed me. Fortunately CVS caught the error and refused the prescription.)

So, the labs are just a starting point. Knowing your baseline before starting HRT helps, but even if you have already started, in my opinon you still need to know these numbers if you are taking hormone replacement (testosterone).

Don't you be lazy about this either. Take the time and Google some of these yourself if you are not familiar with them so that you can ask informed questions and have some clue about what your doc might be weighing if he or she questions the need to any or all of these tests.

You need ALL of these lab results. If your doc says that one or another of them is not necessary in *your* case, pull his underwear up over his head, hang him up on a coat rack and ask him how *his* testicles feel. (just kidding, but you get the idea)

recently posted some information about low Free Testosterone being associated with degenerative lumbar changes. My personal internet research and personal experience vouch for that. Because of the low free (vs total) testosterone, I have severe lower lumbar bone degeneration.

I don't know how to treat it except to keep taking the testosterone.

Phil

Total Testosterone 382 ( 241-1100 )

Free Testosterone 36.6 ( 46 - 224)

BioAvailable Testosterone 70.4 ( 110 - 575)

SHBG 56 ( 18-47 )

*LH 8.4 ( 1.7 - 11.2 )

*FSH 12.5 ( 1.7 - 11.2 )

Estradiol (E2) 49.1 ( 0 - 52 )

Prolactin: 8.3 ( 2.0 - 18.0 )

*Eelevated LH and FSH levels can indicate primary testicular failure. If you are already on HRT, they will be low already, so those lab results may be of limited value. Still, I think it's good to have the numbers handy so you can keep track of changes.

Im my case, I have been taking 1mg of Arimidex about 3 times a week

for about 6 months so far. I keep monitoring my E2 levels, but to

date, they continue to hover in the upper third of the normal range

so I still have enough Estrogen circulating in my system to cry when

I see little kittens.

I have heard about another product called Mesterolone which very

effectively prevents T from aromatizing to E, but it is not legal in

the United States anymore thanks to the overzealousness of sports

fans who are concerned about steroid use regardless of those of us

who could truly benefit from a little extra DHT. It is still a legal

prescription in most countries.
