Guest guest
Not with Enbrel, but definately with Prednisone. Seems like no matter how hard I try I can't lose weight the way I think I should. I have felt so good since starting the Enbrel in Sept. that I have decided to address my obesity issue. I have been on the Atkins diet for 2 months and am losing but at a snail's pace. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this. Thanks. Janet
Guest guest
Janet: Glad to hear you are feeling better on the Enbrel. Just a couple of questions about the diet - are you comfortable with the Atkins diet? and eating all that meat? Everyone's body is very different - I personally cannot eat all that protein and find that when I do my condition can actually worsen. Then again, my husband thrives on the ATkins diet. Sometimes too much red meat (are they Omega 3s?) can cause some inflammation. I have read a couple of different diets specifically for arthritis and they all say to stay away from red meat. Just a few thoughts for you. But good for you for wanting to get healthier and work on the weight problem. That will only help the RA in the long run. Good luck. gloria
Guest guest
Janet, Enbrel never made me gain weight but the predisone did. While on Enbrel, I got off the prednisone but developed a continuous sinus infection. Finally got tired of the routine getting off Enbrel, taking antibiotics for infection, then back and forth. I now just take anti-inflammatory and a lot of vitamin C, fish oil, and chicken cartilage. It WORKS!!! Good luck to you, Kay ----- Original Message ----- From: janetlou59 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2004 11:10 PM Subject: Enbrel and weight gain or loss Hi all.I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems losing weight while on Enbrel and or Bextra. Guest guest
Janet, Did you give up sugar??? I have found diet to be VERY important with this disease. I gave up milk, sugar, wheat, bread, and fried food. It helped tremendously to give up milk and sugar.... Guest guest
Hi Gloria, I have gained 50lbs in 8 years and am finally giving it my all out effort to get back to my old weight. As I became less active from the arthritis, the weight just glommed on. Before I was able to skate ski in the winter and keep my weight down. I have always had success in limiting carbohydrates. Up here in Alaska, I have access to lots of fresh salmon and halibut. I eat alot of fish, and poultry for my protein so I'm not to freaked about the red meat thing. The Atkins website attributes certain medicines to blocking weight loss. They have listed anti-inflamitory drugs and anti-arthritis drugs. Well my doctor says that neight bextra or embrel will give me problems so I am going to believe him and keep on my program. It may be coming off at a snails pace but at least it's coming off. Thanks for the reply. Janet > Janet: > > Glad to hear you are feeling better on the Enbrel. Guest guest
Kay, Yes the Atkins diet is pretty much sugar free. I also notice a huge difference with my arthritis when I eliminate sugar and wheat from my diet. > Janet, > Did you give up sugar??? I have found diet to be VERY important with this disease. Guest guest
Hi Janet and yn, I have been on Enbrel, Bextra and Arava for the past year. On the Weight Watchers plan (for the past 2 years) I have lost 68 pounds. If I can do it, you can do it. The key for me is exercise. I do most of my exercise in the pool and it makes all the difference (I have to pay for a gym membership - but I think it is worth it). Good luck, JennH > Date: Sat, 3 Jan 2004 22:20:40 -0800 (PST) > From: Jocelyn Leger <jocelyn_leger@...> > Subject: Re: Enbrel and weight gain or loss > > Not with Enbrel, but definately with Prednisone. Guest guest
Wow Jenn that is awesome. You are an inspiration. I have been using the pool off and on. Doing water aerobics but stopped for awhile while I battled Fifth's disease. I've been walking everyday but am thinking of heading back to the pool. Maybe that will jumpstart the weightloss. Thanks for the vote of confidence. Janet > > Hi all. > > I was wondering if anyone has experienced problems losing weight > > while on Enbrel and or Bextra.
