Guest guest
It seems that in all of the posts I read, the children have some sort of other disability or developmental problem along with the apraxia. Are there some children with JUST apraxia? The info I have researched said it is rare to have " pure " apraxia, but speech therapist said it is very common... ??? My daughter Madison was diagnosed a couple of months ago w/ verbal apraxia. The pediatrician and speech therapist said they do not see any other type problems. She is very intelligent, great receptive abilities, no drooling, no eating/swallowing/sucking problems, no sensory problems, etc. We have an appt. with a pediatric neuro. in March (earliest we could get!) just to satisfy my worry and make sure there is nothing else there! I see some improvement in her speech since starting therapy-more verbalization, more words, though not really understandable to others. Sometimes I wonder if the apraxia diagnosis is accurate, maybe she is just a late talker, especially since she has none of the other symptoms/problems that I see other parents describe. Am I kidding myself?? Sometimes I feel out of place on this board b/c our only problem is she can't articulate her words. Am I alone?? Anyone else with just a speech problem?? Any input is appreciated! Tricia
