Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, We have used johnnyseeds.com for 20 years and have always been happy with them. They have organic and heirloom seed. For best selection, you want to order soon. Randy > > Hello, can anyone tell me where they buy their vegetable seeds? Thanks! Guest guest
I get the majority of my seeds from: Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds www.rareseeds.com San Hill Preservation Center www.sandhillepreservation.com Seed Savers Www.seedsavers.com This year I'm checking out Tomato Growers www.tomatogrowers.com Also, as my own personal plug, I will be selling heirloom tomato, pepper, eggplant and herb seedlings. I grow a huge variety (40+ peppers and tomatoes) and will have them for sale in May. Barb
Guest guest
I keep seeing seed savers exchange being mentioned and I think you all would like to know that (in my opinion) they have been co-opted by Monsanto as well. If you want the full story do a search engine of " seed savers monsanto " but the basics of it is that the founder of seed savers ended up getting railroaded out and seed savers has shared all of the genetic material they possess with the " doomsday vault " in Norway which is funded by...you guessed it..Monsanto. The American Indians that entrusted their seed to seed savers were outraged by this and were not given their seed back when it was demanded. I know that posted others that are good...one I have personal experience with is Sand Hill Preserve. I love that they only sell straight run poultry (meaning they are no kill- you have to buy both boys and girls) and keep their flocks small because they do what is best for the health of the birds. I have spoken with them and their work comes from a true passion and desire to preserve genetic material in poultry and seeds. Guest guest
Don't know if this has been posted already but I put this on facebook a couple days ago.... http://www.mothering.com/community/t/824672/seed-companies-safe-from-monsanto-ti\ es WARNING: Still, please contact any seed company you are considering buying from to find out if they source from Monsanto or more sneakily, ANY of it's subsidiaries which are many. ny's for example isn't owned by monsanto, but buys seeds from seminis which is I believe. And I think someone mentioned that already. Would be better not to support anyone who is supporting monsanto, even if it's thrice or more, removed. Good luck! Also we just bought 10lbs of heirloom seed, some 40+ varieties, off of ebay for a pittance, and have ordered from them before. You'll have to make sure you can grow those veggies here, but they are a steal any way you slice it.
Guest guest
Another good seed company is Turtle Tree Seeds out of NY. I've had good luck with germination and they are open pollinated > > > WARNING: Still, please contact any seed company you are considering buying from to find out if they source from Monsanto or more sneakily, ANY of it's subsidiaries which are many.
