Transitioning family to GAPS--help w/ food allergies/sensitivities!

I am slowly working on transitioning my family to a GAPS diet--not an easy feat

with a somewhat skeptical husband (who is overall supportive, yet skeptical), a

4-year-old carb/dairy fanatic, and an 8 mo. old baby.

Currently my daughter is severely allergic to nuts, so we can't use almond flour

or any other nuts/nut butters. My 8 mo old son is, I'm fairly certain,

sensitive to eggs and/or egg whites (red, raw bum after eating them both alone

AND with the few coconut-flour recipes I've tried).

My baby's diet is primarily breastmilk but he does love to eat with us, and I

think it's important that he eat with the family--and eat WHAT the rest of the

family is eating as much as possible. Same with our daughter who is allergic to

nuts.

I already batch cook on weekends as much as possible (husband and I work

opposite schedules so I essentially make all our evening meals on the weekends).

That's not too much of a hassle, but now I'm wondering what some quick, easy

meals for breakfast and lunch that are: are nut/egg/gluten/dairy free, and

appeal to kids (extra special bonus if it can also be easily consumed by a

baby). I need to have a life on the weekends and not spend every moment

cooking. :-)

Am I wishing for the impossible???

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi Krista,

My partner and I are in stage two of GAPS Intro. We have a 6-month old

baby. We're eating lots of bone broth and simple soups made with the

broth. Before going on intro, we were doing full GAPS for a few months. I

found that we ate a lot of spaghetti squash casseroles! Also, I think it

helps to have things like mini meatloafs (with liver!) stashed in the

freezer as well as a blended mushroom soup that can be used to thicken

other soups or provide a quick and easy base for other casseroles.

Good luck! Our weekends are filled with cooking and putting up broth,

yogurt, etc. but it's worth it so far!

A lunch that is a big hit around here is tostadas. You could batch cook

homemade Refried beans (which are SOOOO much better than the canned variety-I

recommend making them with lard as it adds a lot of flavor). To serve, we add

frozen corn to the beans. You could then spread the mixture on a rice cracker

or something equally suitable for little ones, and add meat/toppings of your

choice. This is a good way for me to get veggies into Klara... I just kind of

smoosh everything down into the beans and she's less likely to pick them off!
