PROGRAM OVERVIEW

There are currently more than 1.2 million people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the United States, with more than 40,000 new infections annually. With the availability of an increasing range of potent, convenient new agents and coformulations, long-term treatment of HIV infection is now the standard in developed countries. As a result, adverse event and lipodystrophy management have become critica

l to ensuring ongoing treatment success. The objective scientific and clinical assessment of new agents and new treatment strategies, as well as the management of potential adverse events, is essential to providing quality patient care. In this program, the HIV Knowledge Network Study Group will synthesize the key data presented at the 10th International Workshop on Adverse Drug Reactions and Lipodystrophy in HIV and the 9th International Congress on Drug Therapy in HIV Infection and provide expert commentary on their clinical significance. In addition, the Study Group will facilitate an interactive forum with a question-and-answer session.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and nurses involved in the care of patients with HIV.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Explain how newly presented study results in antiretroviral therapy apply to clinical practice

•

Review significant developments and strategies in antiretroviral therapy as they relate to treatment-naïve patients, patients in second-line and later regimens, and multi-class-experienced patients

•

Describe new scientific data on adverse reactions and lipodystrophy associated with antiretroviral therapy
