of them. The first step to a great job is education. A GED is one road; a

college degree, another.

A new version of the GED, an equivalent high school diploma, launches this

FIRST PERSON

Children with LD have their turn at becoming movie stars! Each year, grade

school students from Walnut Street School in New Jersey produce and star in

their own movies and news programs. Hollywood Kids, an after-school program

developed by teacher Cat , puts LD children in front of and in charge of

RESEARCH DIGEST - Linking Research to Practice

A research report on the Medical and nonmedical stimulant use among

adolescents: from sanctioned to unsanctioned use, presented in the Canadian

Medical Association Journal, cautions that, though most adolescents use

medications as intended, " Physicians and parents should keep track of

stimulant medication, especially when several months' supply is prescribed. "

BOOKS FOR KIDS

In Reach for the Moon (1994) Abeel, a young woman and author who was

diagnosed as both gifted and talented and learning disabled, shares her

poetry and stories. The book includes LD resources.

In The Best Fight, (1994) , who's in the fifth grade, has a learning

disability. When others tease about his reading problem, he responds by

fighting, and gets sent to the principal's office. Mr. , a perceptive

principal, realizes why is getting into trouble.

The Vicar of Nibbleswicke by Roald Dahl (1994). The Reverend Lee

triumphed over dyslexia as a child, but when he becomes the new vicar of

Nibbleswicke, he is so nervous that his dyslexia returns in a new form.
