Guest guest
Hi Alisha - I don't think you have to worry about growth problems and Pro EFA . I know 's son who is now 15 has been on Pro EFA and he is over 6 feet tall!! My 4 1/2 year old has been on for almost a year now and he is very tall for his age - as well as 's son Tanner is also tall for his age!! Not scientific evidence, but certainly mom evidence!! Guest guest
Hi ! As you of course know -I'm just a mom too (and yes Tanner -and Dakota are tall for their age) The statement that EPA from fish is not good to give to babies because it stunts growth and you should give them DHA from algae instead raises other questions. The most obvious is are kids that eat lots of fish short? Anyone? I thought that " Our bodies convert ALA to EPA; EPA to DHA; and DHA to Omega-3 Eichosanoids. So EPA turns into DHA anyway. And according to this one article I found at http://wwwchem.csustan.edu/chem4400/SJBR/polet.pdf -studies done on chicks that had the addition of EPA to the diet increased the brain and retinal DHA as much as when DHA was added -which kind of validates the former (if this is all the case-which in just being a mom I don't know) I do know that I personally do not believe everything I read -and even if someone swears by something I follow logic -and gut instincts. Actually -because at the First Apraxia Conference that was hosted by CHERAB over the summer I had the pleasure to speak with a neuro scientist who has done extensive work on EFAs -Dr. from Oxford -I learned from Dr. Richarson that " here in the US we believe the DHA to be more important -but in the UK, where they have been studying the EFAs longer -they have found the EPA to be more important for their studies on dyslexia and ADHD http://www.naturalproductsinsider.com/hotnews/21h30151213.html (notice that EPA is mentioned before DHA) And the UK EyeQ Formula - which is an Omega 3/6 formula -has a MUCH higher ratio of EPA to DHA. And here in the US -EPA is also recommended along with DHA without any age warnings -just the opposite -in the Merck home manual http://www.merck.com/pubs/mmanual_home/sec23/266.htm for example. Because of this -and out of curiosity -a few weeks ago I started mixing the regular ProEFA I give my boys -with the ProEPA one to one (capsule of each) and as I just emailed Dr. " we saw results in less than one week. I wasn't going to switch anything with Tanner -but my husband started giving it to Tanner, our apraxic son too, and he had another speech surge. In addition, Dakota for the first (!!) time ever now stays with my cart in the supermarket (that's is the easiest way to explain if you know what I mean!) " Dakota has been diagnosed with ADHD by 2 pediatric neurologists and Dr. Marilyn Agin (dev ped) and no drugs -because his grades are mostly A's and he's social -his only problem is attention (he's a daydreamer like me) So unless someone can produce the solid clinical evidence that EPA stunts growth and even one anecdotal comment that statement is true, I don't buy it no matter who says it. I've seen just the opposite with my two anyway -and the proof is in the pudding -right ? =====
