Guest guest
Hi, Thank you very much for the information. Everything I have obtained from the group has been very informative and clears up some confusion. I have started my research project and want to thank everyone who has commented and given me great information. Was your daughter already receiving treatment for oral apraxia when she was referred for a swallow study? Thanks
Guest guest
It was my 3.9 year old son that has apraxia. Yes, he has been in therapy since Jan. 2001. She had asked about his size, very small for his age & I said that he ate nearly nothing. He seems to have some kind of oral sensory thing going on. She attempted to do the feeding evaluation on him in November. He would not cooperate after he gagged on the peanut butter. So I know nothing more now than before??? Tammy I. in FL mom to 3.9 apraxic, 6, 17 stuttered as young child, soon to be the big 21! >Thank you very much for the information. Guest guest
My daughter was doing SLP through Early Intervention but my ongoing complaints of her choking so frequently prompted Doernbecker Children's Hospital's CDRC that follows her progress to refer her for the swallow study. Surprising that they found a PHYSICAL reason for it in addition to the fact that she has apraxia. In fact, there were times they wanted to diagnose her with autism (her older brother has it) but they always seem to find PHYSICAL evidence for her problems. She also has made great gains in progress in PT and OT and they said that she really doesn't have autism because that wouldn't happen...they stay stuck so to speak. I've always known since my son DOES have autism that she does NOT...she's social, makes eye contact, has imaginitive play, and she comprehends everything said to her but due to the apraxia her speech is incredibly delayed. She does have sensory integration issues however, though she's much improved. Tammy >Thank you very much for the information.
