Guest guest
Happy New Year to All, Quick question......my 6 yr old was classified at 4 then declassified and then reg Kind. and then I had him reevaled at the end of Kind and the CST found nothing, but because the Neur. I brought him to said LD and lang processing problems they classified him. The CST and I have not seen eye to eye on any issues....that being the background. Can someone advise me what reading tests you would suggest I bring up at his IEP mtg next week as I wrote 2 different certified return receipt requested letters---one requesting more speech and also individualized (I had private eval done and that eval also states the same recommendation and the school SLP did tell me that he needs more.) The other letter requested reading assessments to be administered by a certified reading specialist because the difficulties in reading have never been addressed. Yes, he goes to Resource for 80 minutes straight for reading and lang. Did I mention that he is only 6 and has DSI too? So 80 minutes is a bit long, I feel, for any 1st grader and then on Friday goes straight to group speech for another 30 minutes. No sensory diet has been included, although they did an OT eval as we agreed to last July and he does have an OT IEP and never has been taken out for it. I also had him OT evaled privately and that is where I got the DSI diagnosis. So I know that I could look up reading assessments, but I wanted an opinion of anyone that could give me an answer to the question that I am sure will be asked---What is it that you want???? I also had CAPD testing started last week and he had fluid in one ear and we discontinued the test as it would not be accurate. Is there a test to see if he is dyslexic--that runs in both families--or any other type of reading problem. I know that they have me written down as a witch, but I can only compare it to my apraxic twins. Anyone would know that they have a speech problem, but what if I had not gotten the Apraxia diagnosis and they were treating them for artic probs at the school.. How can they " treat " a significant reading disorder according to the psychologist (not a delay) if they do not know what they are treating. Can you tell I am getting anxious about this mtg? Sorry this was not a quick question as I stated above but I really need your advice on this....THANK YOU!!!!!!! Kathy Toms River, NJ
