Guest guest
Hi ! I just had to respond to you because just yesterday my son received a diagnosis of Moderate Verbal Dyspraxia from a Developmental Pediatrician. I have much of the same questions as you. The only one that I can answer for you is regarding the differences between Apraxia and Dyspraxia. My son's Dev. Ped. explained that to me yesterday. Apraxia (A represents " Absence " ) of speech/language. A child with Apraxia could not learn or would have great difficulty learning speech. Also some of what can be learned is not retained. Dyspraxia (D represents dysfunction) of speech/language. A child with Dyspraxia can learn language with more ease than a Apraxic child but has difficulty in the long run with particular sounds and speech intelligibility. A child with Dyspraxia also does not " loose words " and retains what they learn. The Dr. also explained that there probably would be learning difficulties in reading and writing when my son reaches school age. There also would be some sounds that he cannot master. Now my son receives speech therapy 2x weekly and oral motor therapy 1x weekly. Her suggestion was that we do pick up OT starting with 1x weekly. If you would like to contact me directly to compare notes as we learn information I would love to talk with you. I am starting the Deeming Waiver research today. Best Wishes to You! ralexa2698@... Guest guest
Hi ! I would love to compare notes! Thanks for explaining the difference between apraxia and dyspraxia. I guess my next step is to find a developmental pediatrician. I think Braden's dyspraxia is probably moderate, too, because people can understand him - just not all of the time. Please let me know what you find out about the Deeming Waiver. I need all the help I can get! I'll let you know if I learn anything that is of use. > > If you would like to contact me directly to compare notes as we learn > information I would love to talk with you.
