Guest guest
My daughter and I really enjoy banana boats instead of smores...You need bananas, df chocolate chips, and aluminum foil. Lay the banana on its " back " and cut into the top, lengthwise, to remove one section of the peel and the banana (to make a boat, like a dugout canoe). Leave the peel connected at the base, so you can fold it over again. Fill the empty part of the banana with df chocolate chips, cover again with the peel, and wrap completely in tin foil. Place on the coals of you camp fire and let roast (for a good little while.) When they are done, the banana will be soft and steamed, like a warm pudding, and the chocolate chips will be melted and gooey but not burned. Take a spoonful of banana and chocolate together--really good! ________________________________ From: nicole <nlsneesby@...> Sent: Tuesday, May 22, 2012 10:01 PM Subject: smore help needed!  Help! My kids and I love smores (even though I absolutely detest what they are made of...they are a true vice of mine!) and we are going camping this weekend. Due to multiple food sensitivities, I really can't take them with us but need some alternative ideas so my kids don't threaten a mutiny and I don't feel like I am depriving them of a true camping tradition! It needs to be sweet, roastable, GF, yeast, soy, dairy, and egg-free! My boys will be in complete debt to the best submitted idea! Thanks! Guest guest
Growing up, we loved the banana boats too.. even more fantastic if you put in marshmallow pieces! We also made little campfire baked apples. Mum would pre-prepare these at home, and we'd toss them into the coals.. she'd also make custard to go with.. I never had a s'more until I moved here to the USA! (I am Australian, and I still don't know what the fuss is about *wink* * Core your apple * Fill with your favorite baked apple fillings (cinnamon, sugar (i like coconut sugar the best for this), butter, raisins, walnuts, craisins, whatever.. NT has a good baked apple/filling recipe with different spices - pg 542) * Wrap in foil * toss into coals for about 30-45min, depending.. * enjoy!
