I know that is a tough question for a parent. I think you said that you are

using a speech therapist through your county program, early start. She may

or may not be the best therapist. My opinion would be to have an evaluation

from someone who has worked a lot with apraxic kids so she/he knows the

difference. You also may hear though from any expert that it may be too soon

to tell. Maybe an expert from our list knows someone in California who you

can go to. In any event, I think that if you have someone who understands

apraxia and is certified in prompt therapy, then even if the child is just

delayed, I would think she would benefit from this type of therapy especially

since you said that she can't say certain sounds right or ignores completely.

Also, you said that since your speech therapy started, your daughter has

gained 17 words (did you say 17?), so that would seem to suggest that

progress is happening. I look forward to seeing if you see any difference

with the proefa. Remember it may not be within days, but weeks. Carolyn

Yes, when they started with her she only said about 2 or 3 words...now she

has 17...but she will go days without saying anything but mama, dada and no.

Those are the only 3 she uses all the time. The other ones come out once in

a blue moon.
