Finally I got my child to a private SLP who diagnosed him as a " classic " case of apraxia. The school system *still* hedged on this diagnosis, I called an emergency IEP meeting over this and demanded the school SLP do a Kaufman Praxis test on my son. Result? Moderate to severe apraxia per the school SLP. (I am still a little miffed that this is the same SLP who worked with my son for almost a year and didn't " catch " this although I asked repeatedly if she thought this was so.) IEP was amended to include not only the group speech my son was receiving in his special ed preschool, but two additional 1:1 individual therapy sessions as well. The school personnel really hemmed and hawed at the meeting, but I stood my ground. I took the ASHA severity matrix to the IEP meeting with me, along with printouts of info gleaned from the www.apraxia-kids.org website. Very helpful. A good group for general IEP info is at : IEP_guide -BJ in polis, MD
