Guest guest
Dear Deborah, I am moving to Derry in a few weeks from Massachusetts. My son Jack is 2 1/2 with Oral Apraxia, SI and pdd-nos. I have spoken to a women in Atkinson who has sent me 2 programs for their (EI) the Easter Seals and The Children's Pyramid. I am to choose 1 of the 2. Jack will only be in the program until May 22 when he turns 3. I am extremely concerned about the transition process and wonder if you can help me. I am also moving to a place where I do not know anyone. I have had serious problems with the EI here in mass. Jack is on his 3rd SLP here for lack of how to treat him, I hired a private SLP who has taken a course in Prompt Therapy and comes 1hr a week. She has done more for him in 2 months than any other SLP through EI has done. I do not want to sound ungrateful to EI but Jack has a specific problem and they just are unequipped to handle his issues. Infact I had him evaluated by 2 outside SLP's who told me he was apraxic and the SLP he has now says he is not just delayed. He has made much progress since starting the EFA's in September. He also is involved with " Building Blocks " program here and receives 6 1/2 hr of 1:1 therapy a week. I guess what I am asking is Which program if you know would be better or are they both basically the same? Do you know of any good SLP's in either program that deal with apraxic children? Do you think he will still need someone private? I know it is hard since you do not know him at all. Are you in the derry area? Thank you so much for taking the time to read all this, JAck is such a bright little boy, I am just concerned about this move and wasting time with people who do not know how to deal with apraxia. I feel like I know more about it than the SLP's that have dealt with him. Sincerely, EIleen mom to JAck and SEan
