Guest guest
My sons first " string " of words was " BYE BYE BYE " as in Nsyncs song! I have always encouraged my kids to listen to music because it can teach them so many words and they remember better because of the melody with it. Since she loves the song you might want to try find the CD single for her, see what other words she can pick up - as long as you dont object to the music. My entire family criticises me for letting my children have CDS by Nsync, Britney Spears, etc etc, but if they like the music, and the feel empowered by learning the entire songs, then why stop them? Now if I let them have Metallica or Marilyn Manson - THEN I could understand their worry! Their latest kick is Josie and the Pussycats - and Dylan has been doing " exercises " to the music. I've been getting him to sing " la le lo " over and over to the music (changing the consonant for each song) to work the muscles around his mouth and practise the consonant sounds. It's hysterically funny to hear him doing that and his sisters sing the words but he loves it! Oh - you could go the traditional route and try nursery rhyme CDS - but Dylan never got into them, even when we tried action songs... Guest guest
Hi Hannah! What great news! It's so fun to hear the beginning stages because that's the most exciting changes -from nonverbal to verbal! It seems that many of our children then after a while of the EFAs and therapy go into the " baby talk " stage which sounds like the Speech Language Impairment issue I've brought up here before. Which by the way is why we are now working with a Tallal PhD and Judy Flax PhD from the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience at Rutgers. Dr. Tallal is the one helping me and some other's from CHERAB like Dr. Agin with a new exciting project to help all of our children. So tell us - is this the first New Year's resolution that worked?! What great news!! =====
Guest guest
I am sooo excited to hear you are working on a new project! My son is in the baby talk stage and I wonder about SLI after ready one of your posts. I also wonder where he will go from here with that and what will help him most now. If this project is half as good as all of your others our kids will benefit. Thanks will never be enough for you and the people who help you. When I see how far my son has come and is still coming I know we would never be where we are now if it wasnt for your information and support. I know my son would give you MANY thanks too if he understood what you have done for him. I do hope someday that he will personally thank you. (I know I have thanked you before but sometimes I just get so overwhelmed with appreciation and wonder if you truely know you have helped to give my son, Liam, a voice.) Guest guest
Dear Hannah, Congratulations to you and especially your daughter isn't it just amazing the things they can really do. When did you start the efa's because I have seen awesome progress with my 2 1/2 yr old oral apraxic son Jack. I absolutley know for a fact that alot of it is the efa's. I started Jack on them in september and in 4 weeks his words just exploded and it has not stopped since, september he had 10 words with babbling like a 10 month old, now 3-4 word sentences. I took him off of them for 2 weeks because he was sick with an ear infection and really I wanted to expeirement with him to see if I took him off and them started him up if he would regress or not. Well at the time I took him off he had 2-3 word sentences, he had no regression but didn't seem to change at all. I started him up and 1 1/2 weeks after starting him again he has progressed to 4 word sentences spontanously with no prompt from me said a bunch of new words on his own for example I said to him, " Jack you need to come in and eat your breakfast. " his reply " no jack not hungrey " I was so pleased and he is even better now than he was before I took him off the first time. I am so happy for you it is awesome.
