Guest guest
Hi all! I hoping to hear from anyone who has had (their child) undergo an overnight EEG. We attempted one yesterday the hospital and it was a complete disaster! Even with mild sedation, there was no way my son (2.5) was going to let the tech cement (yes, cement! It smelled just like airplane glue) twenty five electrodes on his head complete with wires hangind down his back into a vest. After three attempts with two different technicians, we were all just short of hysterical! They finally gave up and we went home, with my poor little guys head full of cement and bald patches where he pulled out the electrodes. I told everyone before that he can't even stand to have a haircut, and the standard answer was " Oh he'll be fine, it doesn't hurt them at all " Our neurologist came to the room before we left and said that was a rare reaction to this type of procedure, most kids go through it just fine. If that's true I'd love to hear from any parents who can give me some advice as to how to make it easier next time (if there is a next time) Apparently they can't use any stronger sedation because it will affect the brain waves, so that's out. I'm really torn on if we should even try it again, since the percent of him having night seizures seems so rare (to me). Also any suggestions for how to handle blood withdrawl through a vein? He is supposed to have the fragile X test too... Thanks for your help, Michele (Mom to 2.5 Verbal/Speech Apraxia, ASD, SID)
