Guest guest
It's great to share techniques that are helping our children, however there are some things that are hard to describe in words. We do the Wilbarger Brushing protocol, and one of the main caveats is that you MUST have a hands-on session with a therapist. It's not something that can be easily or even accurately described in writing on an email list. " The Wilbarger Protocol is a specific professionally guided treatment regimen designed to reduce sensory defensiveness which involves the provision of deep touch pressure throughout the day. This technique needs to be taught and supervised by a trained occupational therapist who has expertise in the area of sensory integration. " from " Building Bridges through Sensory Integration " , Yack, Sutton and Aquilla. " Over the past several years, the interest in body brushing has outpaced formal training...the technique is often casually shared or passed on inaccurately. Generally speaking, when the technique is used improperly it will simply be less effective. But, people need to know that if they use this method on the stomach/abdominal area, it can not only be counterproductive but even dangerous. Guest guest
Yes, there is one, and he's excellent. School starts next week, so, I can get right on it! My son has just begun humming...it was cute at first, but it's getting to be annoying and he seems to be doing it to tune out conversations. Donna Re: Wilbarger Brushing Protocol i agree. it is not very complicated, but is best shown by someone who really knows how to do it. it does need a certain technique. is there an o.t. in your child's school that could show you? barb --- Gretchen Heinrich <gheinrich@...> wrote: > Hi, > This is best demonstrated by an occupational > therapist. > Gretchen > http://pbb.net/wilbarger_brushing_protocol.htm > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been > removed] > > ===== Barb Katsaros barbkatsaros@... __________________________________________________
